Just wondering if Ford made a Crusader with chrome bumpers? Ive looked in some documents and it states that a Crusader had black bumpers and a colour coded grill (which mine does)................... but i do like chrome!!!

I am deperate to keep mine totally original.............. but i do like chrome!!! :cheers:

I think it was the 2 tone Crusaders that had the Colour Coded Grille and the Black bumpers & the single colour Crusaders had Black Grilles and Chrome Bumpers.

I might be wrong, but that's how I remember them in the Dealership (I was officially employed by UBM FORD in Cardiff at the time ... I was in-charge of putting the stripes and the Knight onto every Crusader that left the Dealership ... They came from the factory without them fitted ... and I tuned in every radio as well on every car , not just the Cortina's). BUT I was only about 10 or 11 Years old at the time, so I might not remember it perfectly.

yes as Aaron says AFAIK..two-toners with coloured grille-black bumpers and screen trim,rest with chrome bumpers and screen trim..although its a fair bet that a good few were matched differently when new when ordered :rolleyes:

Taken from Ford's Crusader Brochure:

"On all single tone models the bumpers are bright ( chrome ), while the grille is cool matt black. But on two-tone models it's the bumpers that are black with the grille in the body colour, A neat distinction, Crusader style"

yep mine is two tone Brown and champange with black bumpers and colour coded grille.

Nashy that does sound like a cool job. Hope they paid you well (when did you get time to do your homework!!)

just got me thinking, when i was that age my Saturday job was a milkboy. Up at 4am, freezing cold delivering pinta's (remember, watch out watch out, theres a Humphry about!) Lol

and the milkman used to pay me a quid, the tight git!!!

There are 7 or so pics of my Crusader estate in amongst the google photos!it was for sale in a few places before I bought it, the guy lives in Scotland and had trouble selling it from so far away....

My two tone rio over gold was ordered with chrome from factory. Standard spec would of been black.

When I restored it, it did indeed have chrome bumpers but the chrome had lifted on the front. So we went two tone and the bumpers were shot blasted then primed and painted black.

 

Crusader models in two tone paint had black ones but single tone cars had chrome ones. But I expect a fair bit of mix and match went on at the time. :thumbup:

I got paid £5 per week during school terms (I came down after school and on the weekends) and £10 per week during the summer holidays (8:00am start & 7:00pm finish).

I learned a lot about cars as I got to drive them around the compound, help out in the workshops (imagine Health and Safety's reaction nowadays to that ), I washed the cars, tuned the radio's in, put any decals onto them, I even did the 'Attended Service' fuel for the customers (something that you don't see nowadays (I came home feeling quite strange on those days )). I even got to take people out on a test drive now and then as well IF the salesmen were busy with other customers (I didn't drive though ... not on public roads anyway).

My Dad was their top salesman at the time, so they wanted to keep him happy and give me something to do instead of having me wandering around trying to get involved (but getting in the way).
