Speedo Bezel Plating

Recommended Posts

I sent them this see what happens :juggle:

Hello I am very interested in your plastic chroming proses . . Your plastic chroming looks like it could be a very attractive product to use .

Would it be possible to send you 2 or 3 small pieces to have plastic chromed as a samples to show other members of BSC and the MTOC how good your product is.

If it is a lasting proses and not too expensive I could see quite a few people using your service .

Also would there have to be a minimum pieces or price ?

thanks Tony B

ohh sorry i mist this D-FENCE :bag:

no reply from my email so i rang them .

He told me its a £150 minimum a batch- But i couldn't get out of him how big or how much a batch is? :headscratch:

He wanted to see the parts that were going to be plated .I suppose we could all put a batch together and see if we could come up with a price each part :juggle:

There's another place in Chertsey here:

http://www.vmclimited.co.uk/index.php

The guy in the workshop next to the one I had uses them. He builds Daleks, Cybermen & all sorts of TV props but mainly Dr Who stuff.

I saw a plastic Cyberman head mask they chromed for him a few months ago & it looked awesome. I wish I'd taken a photo of it now.

I think it cost £50 for the mask & £200 for the whole suit. They call it 'Thermal Vacuum Metallisation' & is explained on their website.

Like anything of this nature all the work is in the preparation, you have a small imperfection & it will be magnified in the finish.

If you paint your plastic parts first with 2k black gloss and get an excellent finish, then you can buy a small quantity of chrome paint from a professional paint shop, it is expensive, but you only lightly mist it on, then clear coat it, I did a rear bumper on a mk2 2 door and no-one could tell the difference between the front bumper which was "real" chrome and the back bumper which was painted. It did take about half a day to do and I think a 1/4 litre of the chrome paint was around £30.00, all the other materials I had already. It probably would have been cheaper to buy a NOS.

Don't forget the centres of the eyeball air vents either side of the dash , it really does enhance the interior if you do these things.

I spent ages masking the dash pods and then spraying the rims in chrome spray. I spent all afternoon doing it and it turned out Crap. :(
