MLI 7 Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) DAY 9 SATURDAY 8/9/12 - DAY 10 SUNDAY 9/9/12 Rest days in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. I tagged along with Graham&Claire as they went in search of the bobsleigh run where Ford UK sent a mk1 Cortina down, piloted by their gang of gungho rally drivers in 1964, as a PR stunt. We found a smaller bob run that looked a bit tight for a car, but we didn't know there is another bigger one as well. Still, good fun and we got to see some of the Olympic sights. MLI 7 Posted July 29, 2014 (edited) We met up with another smaller group of Cortinas from the UK, and we also met Austrian Hans Roithinger (consul315 on here) in his nice mk2 Estate + a couple of guys from CZ(!!), driving a mk1. We got permission from the city council to park&show our cars in the pedestrianized down town main street, so hopefully we put on a good show for the locals that day Hans' Estate The mk1 from CZ Edited July 29, 2014 by MLI

MLI 7 Posted July 29, 2014 The Hotel Cortina was kind enough to have a reception for us, where our organizers, Graham&Claire + Pete&Lynn, presented Cortina's head of tourist office with a couple of nice Cortina souvenirs After a couple of speeches, it was time for cake and refreshments
MLI 7 Posted July 29, 2014 Did it take you 2 years to fix your photobucket account this time Magnus ?? Something like that, Dave :) No, it's more due to my general laziness and forgetfulness, I'm afraid (and time waits for no man...)

MLI 7 Posted July 30, 2014 DAY 11 MONDAY 10/9/12 Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy - Davos, Switzerland On our way from Cortina to Bolzano, we went over the Pordoi Pass, at 2240 meter altitude
MLI 7 Posted July 30, 2014 Maybe you can (just about) spot all the parachutes up there? There was this cable car at the pass, taking people from 2240 meters and up to 2950 meters
MLI 7 Posted July 30, 2014 Somehow I managed to loose the others in our small group that day around Bolzano somewhere (think I ended up last in line again, due to traffic), so broke out my large scale Europe map again, which is far from ideal when you want to go on the smaller mountain roads :) So, I figured I'd try going over the Passo Gavia, which turned out to be at 2652 meters :car: Felt a bit like Robin Hood in the Sherwood Forest at first (and yes, I've been to the Sherwood Forest as well :) ). This stretch of road was just amazing, at places I left the engine running, just praying that the handbrake would work, when stopping for photos. Didn't see another car for miles on end, superb trip.
