TinaInTheForest 1 Posted February 12, 2013 I guess that the H/D shell / GT could have had the double skinned rear chassis members as per the Lotus Cortina and Estate cars. This is an extra 'U' section of metal inside the chassis rail, extending about threequarters the way up the side of the rail and spot welded on. It reaches from just in front of the front springhanger to just behind the rear one. Only one way to find out when buying a Lotus Cortina and that's to take an angle grinder to the chasis rail and remove a section. The owners can sometimes object to this though. Danish 294 Posted February 12, 2013 (edited) ....or use an endoscope to look along the rails from a suitable orifice. :icecream: /quote] Good idea. Things are so cheap now. In the 90's we had a boroscope at work for looking into cavity walls and it cost a fortune. Now they're really quite cheap: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574629005&toolid=10001&campid=5335900709&customid=&mpre=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-VS8196-Video-Borescope-8-5mm-/230920775954#vi-content Edited February 12, 2013 by Jayne
the-ford-cortina.com 226 Posted February 12, 2013 Dennis Roberts is a liar then ? nope , he was asked if the GT shell was strengthened his reply would refer to the standard UK spec GT car - the rumour was that all GT shells had strengthened floors which is what he was denying.
