anybody had to change there front suspension top mounts what do you recomend as a replacement

Hugh Wade used BMW mounts that were better quality & had the bearings inbuilt - bit pricey at £250 - his son John probably has a few left since Hugh passed away.

mk4 zephyr zodiac roller bearing top mounts , you just need to alter the holes on your inner wing tops slightly to fit them. Might be a problem finding some though.

Thats what's fitted on mine, and not expensive either, series one struts they fit straight on, series two struts they need a sleeve machining as far as i'm aware :thumbup:

For a mk1, I believe the owners club do new repro top mounts?

 

I believe putting mkIV Zodiac roller bearing top mounts on a mk2 would also lower it slightly, not a bad thing!

thanks guys appreciate the help looks like the way to go bmw ones sound a bit to expensive not having stripped them before nothing similar on a mk1 or 2 escort any good?

On a mk1? What's wrong with your originals can't you just replace the bearings?

I've never even looked at them but I thought they just had a replaceable bearing inside?

They have 2 replaceable bearings but the rubber mount part is a bit shot so going to change as a pair

i use the BMW mounts, just drill to holes 8.8 mm at the right place, use the original topmount for right dimensions.

 

The car will be a bit higher, about 2 cm.

 

i wonder why these parts are so expensive in UK. go to the scrap. the BMW parts last almost forever.don't forget to place the bmw alu washer onder the mount
