WARNING !!! RISK OF FIRE FAULTY FUEL PIPE

Recommended Posts

I don't know why, but that braided type of fuel line is never any good. Even the diesel leak off pipe of the braided type perishes.

I never use it.

Might try to get one you recommend on ebay, thanks

That looks more like ozone damage attacking from the outside, rather than ethanol damange attacking from the inside.

Either way, though, that old hose is not fit for purpose and could have killed you!!

Some of these cheaper fuel lines are just accidents waiting to happen.  They use a poorly ethanol resistant liner on the inside and a non-ozone resistant covering on the outside, so you end up with it being rotted away inside by the ethanol and cracking to dust on the outside from traffic fumes and general ageing.  How they are legally sold is beyond me.

The Cohline 2240 was the best I could find on paper, and is still going strong in practice on the cars I have it fitted to.

Yes that braided hose is definitely rubbish and I'll certainly not be using it again.  In fact I don't think I'd even put it on a lawnmower.  As above, I don't know how this stuff can be legally sold as a fuel hose.

What is the purpose of the braid anyway?  All it does is is cover up the actual hose so you can't see what state the rubber is in until it's too late.  I only used it as it was a closer match to the original than some of the other more rigid and chunkier fuel hoses.  However the Cohline 2240 is quite a nice fairly flexible hose so that's what I'll be using from now on.

Had mine split on the GT just going through a tunnel, it lost power and l thought l was out of petrol, luckily l switched it off,  rolled to a stop and investigated, could have been a complete disaster!!!!

As I replied elsewhere, I remove ethanol from my fuel

Put fuel in a clear container, add a cup of water, shake and leave upside down for 24hrs

Water and ethanol combine and can be drained off leaving neat fuel

Great for winter storage too

I always carry a 2kg dry powder extinguisher too. This year, my friend lost his trans am outside his home due to fuel pipe failure and no extinguisher, so sad ...
