Mk1 GT Resto/2 door conversion

Dave - regarding the radius bottoms on the front jacking points -

I'd imagine these will be squashed all out of shape the first time you use them to jack the car up. Who supplied your ones? I used the ones from the MK1 owners club and they were the correct shape and made from very thick metal.

I think you should change the ones you have before its too late !!!

Great project. Keep up the good work.

They were supplied by Expressed Panels and are the same thickness as the originals, think that's why they have a radius on them, maybe their press is not powerful enough.

The N/S one only had a small amount of rust but decided to change it to balance it with other side. I did take it off carefully so I have a good pattern if I decide to make them when the car is finished.

Looking great Dave.

I never ever jack my cars by the shell anyway. always use the crossmember or axle to lift the weight of the shell..

Try telling this to some tyre fitting companies, they wanted to jack my GT up on the jacking points, and I asked if there was any insanity in the tyre fitters family, he looked confused, but I tried to explain that my car was made in 1963 and would he like to jack the car on either the axle or the crossmember, because he had to get on his knees to make sure the jack was in the right place, he was a bit miffed to say the least, then a 13 plate Range Rover comes in and they proceed to jack that up on the sills !!!!!! :tears:  :gun: :o :( :poo: :tazz: I think the fitters had day release and secretley worked as :clown: 's full time.

A lot of their stuff is made from white-metal presses, which aren't as strong as steel, and can only do a small number of pressing before they have to be re-cast.

Lovely work on the cross-member Dave

Wondered how they did it, that's why the finished article is not as crisp as the original..

I did buy a cross member repair section from the owners club but was not that impressed, have come to the conclusion I'm better off making my own panels.:)
