a1topdog 4 Posted March 2, 2014 (edited) Top quality work as usual Dave. I hope you had a word with the supplier of that front sub frame about what looks like the awful quality of the welding. Send them some of your pic's on how it should be done! Edited March 2, 2014 by a1topdog

I hope you had a word with the supplier of that front sub frame about what looks like the awful quality of the welding. Send them some of your pic's on how it should be done! Yep, know what you mean, pigeon and a bit of squeezing comes to mind... Will probably strip the paint off and grind out some of the welds and re-weld bit by bit. ;) Edited March 2, 2014 by Downstairs Dave
Steve 5 Posted March 2, 2014 Maybe better if you put your own style into building these for sale,Now you have the correct alignment etc ;) That welding looks like chinese cack
ludsonline 0 Posted March 3, 2014 Shame about that crossmember, I thought Alan's work was ok. Good job I saw this as I was going to order one to replace my butchered Mk2 Escort one. Is this the one to allow Escort suspension to fit a Mk1? Cheers Paul

ludsonline 0 Posted March 3, 2014 If your running a escort rack & TCA's then I think your inner pick ups are at the wrong angle. Below is a standard Escort crossmember inner pick up

63 woody 0 Posted March 4, 2014 You might want to have a look on Facebook at how Dave at RETRO FORD is doing a steering rack conversion.Original Cortina legs and modded Escort crossmember with purpose made steering arms. Before i get jumped on i can guarentee caster, camber and ackerman will be correct when its complete.I know hes thinking about producing this as a kit once its proven. This is going on his personal car and he doesnt make any crap.Hes fitting Focus ST 170 engine but the same principles apply.Got to be better than the one from B&Q currently fitted. The rest of your car is to nice, dont leave that crossmember on it. Just had a look, very impressive! Is he is using a world cup crossmember from Rally Design? Looking at the pictures and comparing with the position of the sump on my car it looks like it might fit... and it has a conventional setup i.e. front mounted roll bar. 63 woody 0 Posted March 5, 2014 The xmember is world cup escort but its modified.Roll bar is a heavy duty mk1 Cortina one.Think he has a few of these in stock.Custom roll bar mounts.Hes designed and machined the steering arms himself allowing for correct geometry.Legs are mk1 Cortina.I think he actually supplies a few of the big names with world cup xmembers rather than having bought it.The best thing i can suggest is ring him and ask if/when it will be available as its in development.Hes very approachable and has built some top notch cars over the years and supplied parts to many more. You wont get any B&Q from him. 63 woody 0 Posted March 5, 2014 No problem, though like i said its still in development at the moment.Knowing Dave he will want the car finished for Classic Ford show or sooner to shake it down iron out bugs before he goes ahead with a production kit.Id buy one of those rollbars as he hasnt got many. They are much thicker than standard but cant remember exact size.If you scroll down his facebook page you will see some of the other stuff he has built and my Alpine green mk1.Hope it all works out and im very impressed by what youve done so far.All the best. Downstairs Dave 37 Posted March 8, 2014 Spent today building the rear subframe, god its time consuming All going according to plan, as I said when its all worked out there will only be four holes that will need to be drilled. Next job is to make the top mounting bracket for the diff carrier and the four subframe supports that will connect to the leaf spring mounts... After that the 'A' arms and rear roll bar mounts to take the rear roll bar from a Ford Fusion.
