What did you make those shafts out of ?

 

Thought those type of shafts were solid steel ?

 

I have some Mazda rx7 shafts, I'll try and measure etc

There's also J&R in Birmingham, l had a very unusual driveshaft, phoned them up, got a very helpful chap, he told me to count my splines and measure the length and he would see what he could do, in the end l think l paid £40.00 instead of £160.00 quoted locally, he said if it was no good, just return it for a full refund, it fitted perfectly, think it should have been for a Toyota Corolla originally!!!!!

Thnks Drutin, the drive shafts were cut and a tube slid over the top, this was done so I could mock up and get the ideal length when moving the suspension up and down, thought it would be strong enough to get me to the MOT and a bit of testing, definitely the wrong thing to do...

ive heard of people, cutting shafts, then grinding the ends down to a V

then joining and welding up, then machining etc

 

id probably, drill a hole in one end and have a male end, press together, then weld etc

I think what Pete is getting at is that you mention the money spent on this car. Well an awful lot of money would have been spent during research and development of the scrappy drive shafts!

I think any person dissing this fantastic car, wants there head examining, or is it just jealousy, you do not deserve a man with these skills to share his knowledge and pictures, the end!!!!

A little update, car is nearly finished, just waiting for the driveshaft's and gearbox tunnel cover to arrive and then its a quick job to fit them..

I also raised the suspension by 20mm as after driving it to the failed MOT journey I found it was way too low, especially when avoiding pot holes. I think the car looks better.

Handbrake works well and here are some pictures of the lever all finished.

Yup. I'm on the fourth iteration of my home build centre console. Each time I think I've improved it enough and got it just right, and each time I need another iteration. Ford must have spent a fortune designing, testing, re-designing parts.

A company called GB Engineering are making them out of some chrome molly steel, they can take plenty of power. Tried my best to find some off the shelf shaft's but to no avail.

How's your car coming on Pete?
