Downstairs Dave 37 Posted August 29, 2013 spent a hour and a half putting on the door to see if it lines up OK, not too bad but nearly all old cars put a fight when it comes to lining up panels. Thought the gap on the wing to door was on the wide side but I think the front wing has been replaced in the past and has been put a little too far forward, I think the scuttle gap is incorrect, anyone got any thoughts? 63 woody 0 Posted August 31, 2013 spent a hour and a half putting on the door to see if it lines up OK, not too bad but nearly all old cars put a fight when it comes to lining up panels. Just been out to the garage and measured the gap for you.My car is on original wings and has never been rotten so i hope this helps.Front gap where wings meet bonnet is approx 5 to 6mm the gap tapers out to approx 8 mm where it meets the top of the door.Hope this helps.Iain
Downstairs Dave 37 Posted August 31, 2013 Well I've learnt a lesson, you should always do your homework before listing things on eBay, turns out the interior on the Mazda donor is very rare and sought after (Tan Leather) put it up for £35 buy it now, sold in less than 3mins. Same with the roof... Oh well
Downstairs Dave 37 Posted September 1, 2013 Did a bit more today, lined up the O/S rear wing and door. Has anyone fitted the owners club door skins? do they fit well? could someone let me know their experience.

Downstairs Dave 37 Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) thought I'd take a break from panel work and do some offering up, started with Mazda steering column, fits a treat, and the beauty of this unit is it has all the switches on the stalks. I'm also going to use the Mazda wiring loom and strip out the bits I don't need. Another nice touch is the steering wheel, its a Nardi and looks a little bit like the lotus, to make it look better I will turn down the wood in a lathe and polish out the black anodized spokes. Put the Mazda gauges into the old Cortina Clocks fits perfectly and I don't think they look that bad, they also screw into the instrument cluster with screws and these are also the electrical feeds to the gauges so what I plan to do is fix the circuit board to a piece of Perspex and run wires to the gauge terminals. this will be a win win no calibration of speedo and all the Mazda connection blocks can be used. Think it looks good, most people wouldn't know, just need to put the smaller gauges into the smaller clock pods. These are the prototype gauges so I can see if it all works, luckily there are loads of MX5 instrument clusters on eBay so will make a nice set when I know exactly what to do... Edited September 2, 2013 by Downstairs Dave

chelseablue 17 Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) Love the Nardi steering wheel, exactly the same as the one on my MX5, are you thinking of fitting the whole MX5 steering setup? BTW tan leather MX5 interiors are rocking horse poo everyone needs a new drivers seat due to the bolster wearing, if I'd known you were selling some, especially if they were good I'd have had them off you, drivers seat is the only thing that lets my car down. Downstairs Dave 37 Posted September 3, 2013 Spent this evening stripping out more of the Mazda, got to get it done soon before the wife complains (got to keep her happy).:wife: Done a little bit of stripping to the engine bay, when you start to get a little bored with one bit do another, that's my philosophy. Going to take the battery tray out tomorrow. Wont be using the Mazda steering as the Mazda track is just over 6 inches wider than the Cortina and I want to keep the car as light as possible, don't know what front set up to use yet (Alachi Carcraft or Retro Ford) Has anyone got an opinion. Alachi Carcraft or Retro Ford are just based on Escort stuff. RS2000 Rack & Crossmember, ADJ TCA's, Twin Cam anti roll bar, 2.8i Bilstein front struts, converted to coilovers with Capri brakes.. Here is the old Classic Ford article, detailing how to do it ;) Hope that helps ;)
