minty93 0 Posted July 20, 2013 hi all, I'm getting some 15x7 minilites for the tina with 195/50r15 tyres on it. I just wanted to know an offset i can get away with it being legal (just) Basically i want to exploit the wheels as much as possible so they are as wide as they can go without having to roll the arches! Any help will be appreciated! Cheers guys
BRAEBURN 0 Posted July 21, 2013 Et 35 offset on 7 inch rims gives you about a half inch gap between the tyre and arch on a 195 tyre, iirc.
minty93 0 Posted July 21, 2013 Thanks! So et30 should be about right to bring it level to the arch. Cheers
wolfrace 116 Posted July 21, 2013 (edited) Just one thing to consider mate. IMVHO if you are able specify a higher offset on the front do so because the wheels do not sit at the same level on a mk3 (the front track always looks wider) I've seen quite a few MK3s with the front wheels sitting further out of the arch than the rear and if you are planning on going as wide as poss without rolling the arches and you use a set with the same offset they will probably poke on the front. Not that it looks bad or anything it's just if you are anything like me you'll want all the width at the rear to give the back end a more solid muscle car look. As for sizes if a wheel shop has an offset tool handy they can work out the max wheel and tyre size combo, the best tools are the yank ones I've seen which you actually fit a tyre to. I guess those 5 spokes you have on your profile picture are the 15" Escort GTi or Mondeo (Cosworth style). Are they around et28? It is usually stamped in the back. You can reference them against your arch and see how much room you have to play around with. I have some turbovecs (the wider 6x13 ones) and at the mo I'm looking into fat (and tall) RWL tyres for the rear. minty93 0 Posted July 22, 2013 Cheered for the reply, those wheels are long gone now I've got lenso rs5 15x6.5 and et35 I think and I've got about 1/2 to 3/4 inch each side So I'm gonna go et30 front And et25 on the rear
wolfrace 116 Posted July 22, 2013 bung up a picture of it with the RS5 wheels on, I wouldn't mind a set of 15"s to add to my stash. At some point I want to measure everything up and make a diagram so people can (more) help work out what size wheel will go on.
minty93 0 Posted July 22, 2013 there it is 15s on 195/50/r15 with 6.5 lenso rs5's with an offset of et35
wolfrace 116 Posted July 23, 2013 Good photo, that was what I was on about with regards to offsets where the rear wheels look really tucked in although it seems the front wheels sit about right with ET35 on that width of rim.
minty93 0 Posted July 26, 2013 Yeah I think so the front will be 1/2 inch wider anyway so will be perfect. I need it widened about 2 inches each side on the rear so 1.5 inches with the new wheels. Anyone know what offset it will be? Et35 - 1.5 inches? Us there and equation? Or is et35 35mm?
wolfrace 116 Posted July 26, 2013 offset is in mm. If you say you have 2 inches to spare ET20 might be OK on an 8" rim depending on tyres but you really need to visit a wheel specialist who can do the calcs for you. I've tried working these things out before on paper and resorted to using on line calcs which you can put which offset you want and it will tell you how much room you have lost. minty93 0 Posted July 26, 2013 Ok happy days cheers for that! I think il go to the local wheel and tyre place and get some measures up!!
wolfrace 116 Posted July 26, 2013 Remember you can always get spacers but for Gods sake get hubcentric ones if you plan on going wider and you will probably need longer studs if you use them. You can use http://www.willtheyfit.com Remember the strut on the image is not how close your suspension will be. Using that with an ET20 rim at 8" gives the 'poke' as 1.33 inches. Doing the calcs on my rims I got an ET of something like 12. I seem to remember Craig saying the wheels on his blue savage were ET0. It's so bloody confusing! I think that means you get real problems when it's minus numbers.
minty93 0 Posted July 30, 2013 I dont fancy spacers to be honest! id rather just get the wheels sorted! My god im confused!! haha i think tyre shop is gonna have to measure accurately!!
