CN92 VIN number in MKII?

Recommended Posts

I bought a spares car for my MkII (too far gone to repair, can't save them all :tears: ) Luckily it has many of the bits i need in my project.

One thing is bugging me though, i cannot find any reference on the Net for a MkII VIN that starts with CN? I did however see one picture of Mk3 that had the CN designator, it was assembled in Netherlands but had a plague that had this mentioned, mine does not.

Anyway here's the info from plates:

VIN plate:

LL A A D003

CN92JE64493

B5P

The "painted" one:

CN92JE64493 LUXE FIN

BU HD 02-50 AA

Stamped VIN matches the one in the plates.

The car is in scandinavian spec; hi-cap starter, radiator blinds (only operating chain left).

All the other numbers match, '69, fern green, 2 doors etc.

Just curious, that's all ^_^

As CE is assembled in Cork, I assume that the C stands for CKD and the Netherlands.... very few CE cars left, same for CN probably

My 2 door 1600E is CN96, and that is a kit where the sub-assemblies were built at Dagenham and assembled in Holland.

Whatever you do don't scrap the car....worth millions!

Thank you CorkTina and Mark! Sadly the car is beyond rescue, way worse than AERO_ADYs MK2 or CORTINA-CITYs MK3 :tears: (exellent threads, took me days to finish reading!) Essentially it's rusted in half and only roof is holding front and back together.

Worth millions you say? As a special offer i will sell it to you for just one million :clown:

As a side note, the car had plastic heater unit case and indoor hood release from factory (as far as i can tell).

If anyone wants pics, i'll be sure to take some.

D-FENS, It's Peter, nice to meet you. Keeping odd hours in this end, as i'm on holiday.

Peter, I was thinking Zimbabwean Dollars (the only currency to have a 500 Trillion Dollar Note)!

It is strange what an unfamiliar chassis code does to a car. Before I bought my 1600E it was for sale at the Stratford show on a trailer, with a lot of guys having a look. One of the 1600E experts took one look at the chassis plate and pronounced it not to be a 1600E because the 'CN' was meaningless and the '96' was a 2 door GT !!

Never trust a self professed expert!

Most of the 1969/70 mk2s sold new here in Norway were assembled in Holland, and have a CN chassis number (see http://www.lotus-cortina.com/mk2plate.htm )

Hi MLI,

By chance i did find a Norwegian 50 øre coin under the carpet in this car, perhaps this car is originally from Norway :headscratch: FIN marking on the manufacture label did threw me off, but i just realized that back then our country code was still SF.

Lots of cars came to finland from Sweden and Norway in the '80s when people that immigrated there to work in late '60s and 70's were moving back. Even i as a kid was imported from Visby :D
