FOL 414V Cosmos blue mk5 1.6 GL

Recommended Posts

I've not spent much time on here recently, i sold the black mk5 (SBO352Y) earlier in the year as i was useing it for every day transport and 400+ motorway miles a week is hard on any car let alone a 30 year old one, So that was sold to lazenby43 of his parish who has done a sterling job maintaining and improving it and i bought an e32 7-series which is a fantastic cruiser but flipping brutal on fuel :shocking: .

My beige mk5 has been under restoration most of the summer, not that it neeed much but after the attempted theft and it living outside for winter it had some marks and blemishes i wanted to take care of before they got worse.

I also bought Bortaf's old 2.3ghia S estate earlier in the year and work will begin on this soon, i've been buying parts as and when for most of the year whenever funds have allowed so that when i start it i can really crack on and not get held up because i'm waiting for a panel or bit of trim.

So now your all caught up, here we have my latest aquisition. Bought blind from ebay, i threw a cheeky bid of £1100 on it and forgot all about it expecting to be outbid, which to be fair i was twice by zero feedback bidders who both retracted their bids a few days later.

With things like this i've learned to bid want i'm prepared to pay/lose and then to ignore the listing till you get the message from ebay otherwise i find it too easy to get caught up in a bidding war and paying over the odds forwhat turns out to be tat.

Any way i won this for £1090, and have so far found it to be accurately described....scabby but essentially a good car. I appears to have had the valances replaced front and back, both front wings replaced and it has filler in the scuttle, drivers doors and rear arches.

But mecahanically she's spot on and is perfect for what i want, something to potter about in at weekends.

Right pictures.

Thanks for all the kind comments, i forgot how friendly this forum is

It's not all roses though, here's some picci's of the bad bits

The pudding filled doors,

The "aero" style scuttle

The replacement wings have seen some screwdriver action in the past to get a decent panel gap i guess :chain:

strangely, it's mint where you'd expect it to rot.....the boot floor is immaculate and original, the A posts are spot on, and so are the inner wings :headscratch:

I've got a couple of weeks off next month so i should have some more to report, i'll do some updates for my other cars aswell.

That's a nice colour!

Black roof goes well with it.

Plenty of potential there!

Look forward to reading the progress!!

Yeah it's BEV. I've got a full interior for it, two rear quarters (arches have rotted out) two rear doors, front skins, front valance, a set of proper ghia alloys and a few other bits and bobs.

She'll be bang on when she's done.

I bid against you then. I regretted not going higher afterwards as I thought it would make a nice car <_<
