Danish 294 Posted December 17, 2013 For gas your local motor factors will likely stock either Hobbygas or AdamsGas - it works like Calor, you put a £40 deposit down then pay £40 for each argon-mix refill. You'll also need to buy a regulator and a connector to fit your welder - probably another £40. So £120 for the first "hiss" of argon, then £40 per refill thereafter. Dagenham Darren 0 Posted December 20, 2013 Hi all. So I have the welder, I am practising and practising before I go near the car. I am currently winning an ebay for the scutle end replacements, then I need to also repair the wing rails and finally the underneath of the drivers seat area, chassis rail and other parts in that area. It feels like I have a hell of a lot to do, and I probably do but I have no other restorations to compare it to. The rest of the car body is in good shape as is the interior and the engine and gearbox that have gone is come from another 1.6 Cortina that ran lovely. Dagenham Darren 0 Posted January 15, 2014 Removed the seats and carpet today in preparation for work on the drivers floor pan and chassis rail replacement. I have been practising without gas but I am going to get some gas and practice with that as I have been told it will be better with gas. Question, is there a best place to buy sheet metal? What type would I need and what size thickness as I am going to be repairing the scutle and also the chassis, around the front floor pan area. As a ballpark figure bodywork is 1mm and chassis is 2mm, if you buy this it will not be far off. Some bodywork can be thinner due to it being streched by the presses.
