Looks good to me. Lagoon blue is one of my favourite Ford colours.

 

Same here, my very first "legal" car was a lagoon blue 2 door, great memories, great car, sadly it is in Ford heaven.

I have grown to like this colour too, i can see how it was a very popular choice back in the day. That said, i am not 100% satisfied with this De Beer pigment, in some lighting situations it appears a tad too green (as if based on green rather than blue :headscratch: ). In a previous life i used to repair monitors so i have a keen eye for colours and i want this to be spot on. I might have a go at trying Glasurits offering as they also seem have the code in their system. Bottom being not so critical will do as is.

 

I will leave the bulk of priming and blocking the body shell for next year but before the weather turns i still have time to do little jobs like the struts. Also might start patching the wings.

That car is gonna be better than new. Your panel fabrication and bending skills are just amazing. The jacking points (front and rear) along with the spare tire well panel are very very nice!!!!  a very informative and useful posting will be an inspiration to others. Thanks for posting!

First post for this year... Still on my winter hiatus, way too cold to do any real work. Though i have done a fair bit of cleaning on the garage to have more working space available, still it's best described as a disaster zone.

Anyway, had a parcel come in the other day (headlight surround for scale). These are not going to be needed anytime soon but i wanted to have them crossed off from my list.

Admittedly i blew the budget on this one (not that i had any to begin with) but might as well get the best. So let's see what 546.54£ is worth these days.

 

All purchased from Aldrige trimming.

Headlining kit 155.15£

Extra 0.5M of headlining fabric to cover sunvisors (just in case i decide to do so) 12£

Carpet set 194.63£

Fabric covered door edge trim, grey 42.67£

Carriage to edge of the known universe 51£

Taxes 91.09£

 

Most of my cars have cost less..

I went with Aldridge trimming based on their reputation and indeed they were a pleasure to deal with. Seemed genuinely nice and accomodating people.  No real issues on the goods delivered either, let's take a closer look:

 

Original Headliner on the left. Spot on. Nothing that even the most ardent rivet counting anorak can complain on   I did not unravel the whole headliner but i have all the confidence that the measurements are right.

 

My original door edge trim was blue but that is not available so on Aldridges recommendation i went with the grey. Looks great and the length is correct with a little to spare. I did not like that they were taped together with masking tape but since i removed that right a way there was no harm done. We all know how well masking tape ages.. 

Here is what was left of my original carpets. There are small differences compared to new carpets. On the old carpet edges are folded over underlay which the new carpet does not come with. Instead on the new carpet visible edges are piped. This will allow better synthetic underlay materials of my choice to be used.

To nitpick a little the wear protector under the pedals is vinyl instead of molded rubber but that is completely understandable.

Original underlay is ca. 6mm thick, little thinner in select areas.

Weave is completely different and thicker,  i do prefer how the new carpet looks and feels.

Could not resist on doing a quick test fit.

 

Looks a bit baggy since there is no underlay present and i only threw it in there. Should be just fine when properly installed.

So was it worth the premium? Well, it hurts only once and having the knowledge that these are the best that is available over the counter there will be no regrets when the time to put it all together comes.

Thank you! If you have the chance to do so you might want to shop around, there are not that many raw material suppliers around. For example i suspect that the fabric edge trim that everyone sells comes from one source. Since i am based so far away it made sense to get everything from one shop.

 

A little while back i bought a second hand pinion and crownwheel set, was sensibly priced at 30€ and in very good condition.

Because i was in a bit of a rush i did the calculations later at home, the axle ratio with this set would be 4.714:1 (7 teeth pinion, 33 teeth crownwheel, headspacing electro pencilled on the gears?). With these the engine would scream like a banshee on the highway, Oopsie!

Original ratio on mine would be 3.889:1. Not a big loss though, these should be easy to resell .

I wish it would be spring already! Got another two inches of snow today instead.. Then again for me it's good to have the winters off to recuperate and get my mojo back.

Yep, Finland it is. Western coast near the midpoint of country, closest "big" city to me is Oulu.

Yeah I'm thinking winter there would be much like here. You would get a better winter there than Ivalo though. I am in southern New Brunswick along the Bay of Fundy. Last night it got down to minus 30c and there is well over a foot of snow minimum in my yard.

In the UK all we want is for the warm weather to come and when it does it is normally over in a flash, l don't envy you with the snow and the high minus temperature's, makes our winters look tame, do you ever get use to such cold winters?

-30C, now that's a bit nippy. Not unheard of here also but luckily this year it's been around -26C at the worst. I wonder sometimes what possessed our forefathers to venture this far north..

I guess it's a bit drier over here on average. Summers are brief but nice, with the sun never going down and all. I must admit that the older i get the harder the cold gets to me, i am getting to understand why all the pensioners move to Spain and such That i got rid of 30 kilos of "insulation" a while back might also have some effect on the matter..

 

Had to do some maintenance work on my plow today so snapped a quick pic. Was a stick welding weather but got the parts glued together well enough, been a while since the last time.
