Captin Crayford 2 Posted June 7, 2014 (edited) Still waiting for the tank to arrive but in the meantime here is something that i did not remember that i had  A adapter plate to fit horizontal flanged master cylinder in place of vertical flanged. It came from my series 2 spares car. This will come handy as my original master was in fairly rough condition. Brake pipes are in the opposite side though but they will be replaced anyway. I have one of these brackets and the master cylinder that fitted to it.I ot them off a mk2 in Malta 20 years ago.lol..The master cylinder i got a rebuild kit for and it was .7 same as GT and E. There was no seal in the Girling kit for the plastic resivour to cylinder body. not serviced.. If you use that plate on a standard pedal bracket you will have to shortern the studs where it bolt to the firewall as i found out when doing a test fit some months ago they are to long. found some pictures. Edited June 7, 2014 by Captin Crayford

LagoonBlue 145 Posted June 13, 2014 Package arrived today! I bought the reservoir kit from here: http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/213651/5497/reservoir_for_569671 Competetive price, good service  Pictures galore below. Contents of kit. Box says lucas, reservoir says Girling. I am inclined to believe the latter. Front and back seals, installation guide, snap ring, screws and spring washers. One of the screws was fine pitched (metric?) and the other coarse pitched (UNC?). Only fine pitched will fit either of the brass inserts, British quality control at it's best  Original reservoir catalog number: 64476296. New reservoir catalog number: 74470129. MAX-MIN markings on the side not present in original. Bottom of reservoirs, all dimensions match. Originals rear fitting appears larger in photo due to gaskets impression, measures same as replacements. Here is the biggest difference between the pair. New reservoirs dividing wall between front and back circuit is shallower than in original (marked by arrow). There should be no problem with this, perhaps a revision change? Original cap catalog number: 64476293. New cap catalog number: 64475939. Same thread and dimensions on both, will cross fit. Naturally no FOMOCO text in the new cap. Bottom of caps. Slight construction differences, identical dimensions. Mocked to 1968 import dual master cylinder. In summary; reservoir kit 64947076 will fit to Cortina MK2 series 1&2 dual master cylinders. There are very minor differences between the units, mainly the dividing wall and slight tolerance differences in overall dimensions due to different molds used. So while maybe not suited to the most uncompromising concourse restoration this kit is ideal for a road used car. Cheap price for the peace of mind considering that at least the front seal is likely perished in all original units by now. Get one while the supplies last!

mk2sav 42 Posted July 22, 2014 BTT as I have just noticed a .70 export repair kit on e-bay . http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/710-53481-19255-0/1?ff3=4&pub=5574629005&toolid=10001&campid=5335900709&customid=&mpre=http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221501716820?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Now to find out how this kit differs from SP2610, my originals bore was too badly pitted so i will refurbis a spare from series 2 MK2 that has horizontal flanges, i did not spot any other dissimilarities when disassembling :headscratch: At any rate this kit has that thermostat looking doohickey (valve?) that does not come with reproduction kits. -Peter
LagoonBlue 145 Posted July 30, 2014 And here are the results, reservoir fitted nicely. Could not spot any difference between SP2377 and what was in my spare '69 master (should of have been SP2610 officially) so i went ahead and installed SP2377. Everything seems to operate smoothly without load but hard to say if it will leak in use, oh well i will try to aim at something soft  Primary piston seal (circled red in the Haynes manual) was a real pain to fit, had to use a hook to stretch it in place being extra careful not to damage it in the process. Also pictured is my DIY valve retaining plug spanner as i had no imperial allen keys, simply an imperial bolt welded to a junk one.
