VV Carburettor Problems/Questions

Took the VV Carb with Auto Choke off to have a look at cold starting problems and noticed a few things:

 

(1) Auto choke mechanism was in need of some WD40

 

(2) Inspection bung/cover was missing thereby allowing dirt/grime to get in around the chocke mechanism

 

(3) The cam on the accelerator only comes into contactwith the pin at full throttle stage.

 

Question on (3) above....Is this correct in the pictures or should it come into contact earlier?

I was thinking it may be the accelorator pump but just checked the workshop manual and it isnt.

The bit is listed in an exploded diagram but not in the explanations :rolleyes:

I spose it could be a damped throttle stop? the haynes wasn't any use either sorry.

vv's arn't a problem you take them off fit them in a bin and fit a webber job done and more power to boot :rolleyes:

Yep - You are correct. My thoughts exactly. However, the car only has 20k and throwing away the carb means it's not standard anymore.

 

I'll have one shot at it. After that it's bin.

Even the ford factory manual aint that clear on the VV carb :(

Took cover off the auto choke section and gave it a good lubrication with WD40 to leave it free. Checked other bits and refitted carb tonight. Seems to be working a bit better. Will know better next time I start it from cold (probably the week-end).

 

Not many Experts on VV Carbs on here then (maybe we all learned quickly to just dump them!).

I think you hit the nail on the head there, many a VV been launched into the bin :oops:

Still have a VV on my 1600... overhauled it at 36K with bits from a brand new transit VV I found at a show... :D
