mk4savage 57 Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) I bought the magazine on Saturday just for the MK4 article. Superb car and a nice feature on it with good photo's. Probably the best I've seen in there for a while. I used to subscribe to CF but I went off it, I found myself flicking through it and not bothering to read half of it through lack of interest but if there were more features like your's I'd still buy it. Too many Escorts, Modern stuff and modified motors for my liking. You'd of thought the amount of Escorts you get on the front cover they could have had the MK4 as the main car on the front cover, just for a change. CorNada 2 Posted November 10, 2014 (edited) No Ford Escort on the front cover of Classic Ford that would be deemed as Escortism! Mitch's Cortina would be burned at the stake if that had happened. What are you saying man! Edited November 10, 2014 by CorNada
wolfrace 116 Posted November 11, 2014 Nice looking cortina S. I know what you mean about escorts In CF, to be fair that arched black one is nice. There are plenty of escorts with ybs, hot pintos, twin cams, zetecs etc and I suppose this is what most people who buy the mag want to see. Serious money gets spent on performance parts on some escorts, they seem to get driven quite hard and getting enjoyed which in my opinion is what it's all about, it's that image that help sells mags. You go on some forums and sites like FB and you do hear a lot of negative comments about keeping cortinas standard, I'm sure they mean well, but with opinions like that we're still a long way from the escort boys having a cortina on the cover every other month. That laid back and accepting approach to modding escorts just seem a bit cooler by comparison. That's why I think they sell more mags with them on the cover anyway, it's just a cooler image. ChristinaGXL 23 Posted November 11, 2014 Looks great in the mag! Still confused though why they'd put a cortina in ClassicEscort magazine though :)
mk4savage 57 Posted November 11, 2014 Fair points regarding the Escort content in the mag. It probably is what most people would like to see in the mag I just found it the same old stuff every month. There were the odd one or two modified Escorts and the very rare standard ones that I did appreciate and I thought, That is nice but I just thought it was a waste of money subscribing for what I wanted. I religiously had the magazine from when it launched in 97 and have got every copy up until around 2 years back. The shine wore off it way before that though I just kept the subscription going. I will still buy it when there are cars like Mitch's in there
Danish 294 Posted November 11, 2014 I found CF very positive about my car - it's had 3 or 4 small mentions, the biggest a third page in a "driveway heroes" or somesuch feature, with talk of a full feature when it's finished. I think from a publishers point of view, any car featured has to have something news-worthy about it - a beautifully restored standard car isn't really any different to another beautifully restored standard car - not much to write about. Modified cars have more stuff to write about as they're unique. With my car you could talk about the ex-Rolls Royce guy who built my engine, the specialists who built the axle, the fancy cooling system for hot climates, the rally-winning history of the guy who's doing the final touches, the history of the race its based on, etc. lots to write about with plenty of technical details of what components were used, which specialists etc.
wolfrace 116 Posted November 11, 2014 I feel the same about cars in general Jayne, some car or other with mods done to it makes it more interesting to me, I like standard stuff too but modified is definitely more interesting. If someone pops a bonnet at a show it's nice to see a load of custom stuff in there. I might stick my head in a couple of bays of standard cars but when you have like 10 Lotus cortinas or escort mexicos or whatever parked up in a row and each one of them is restored to their standard spec and looks the same then once I've seen one I've seen em all. Whereas someone fits a twink or a supercharger or four wheel drive or just something different and suddenly there is something new to ask questions about and an owner who you know has had to go out and figure most of the stuff out for themselves or fabricate custom parts. I love seeing that.
Danish 294 Posted November 11, 2014 the ex-Rolls Royce guy who built my engine Oops, errata. The guy who *built* my engine was our very own JoeyGXL, the Rolls Royce guy *machined* my engine. Must get that straight.

I will still buy it when there are cars like Mitch's in there  Primary reason I gave up my subscription about seven or eight years back. I like a good read about a restoration of any car but the constant stream of Mk1 & Mk2 Escorts got plain boring with other models not just Cortina's but 100E's, 105E, Consul Classics/Capris just being dropped altogether even though there were dozens of cracking cars on the show circuit they can't have failed to spot. I still have a flick through in the local Asda if I see it on sale but little seems to have changed. It's a sad irony for me as it was a chance read of the August 2000 issue of CF that got me into Cortina's in the first place I still have every issue stored from 2000-2006 and a lot of back ones bought at autojumble that probably go back to mid-1998. sheffieldcortinacentre 641 Posted November 24, 2014 (edited) I & many others have been saying this for years I even left the RR forum after getting loads of abuse for saying this. I've bought this issue for the "S" article & to catch up on the thames camper & see its not changed, esp the answers to readers tech queries who's answers where utter rubbish/wrong, for a mag devoted to one manufacturer. but as its staffed by people that weren't even born when the content where classed as bangers & are just involved to be hip & cool (one ex writer who was so into fords , then moved on to a Vauxhall mag which he was then "so into" (this isn't just a dig at Vauxhalls he could have gone to mini,vw,etc) dunno if he still works there) & scene. this to me just how shallow these people are, yes people can change alegencies (& have every right to do so)but have the balls to say why. sorry for the hijack & rant, but armchair experts/blaggers & this sort of thing is one of my pet hates.
