M5Greg 83 Posted February 8, 2016 wow what a great thread. Just look at that work. Really neat. Superb Greg. I like the way you work. fantastic. Very nice work. Thank you both. I did a few more bits yesterday and will get the pictures up on Monday, I got distracted by the XR6 on eBay but didn't bid high enough which was probably for the best. Beowulf 87 Posted February 8, 2016 Excellent work as always. I dont think a professional restorer could do any better than you have done with the top of the rear panels, kudos for doing it yourself.
M5Greg 83 Posted February 8, 2016 I actually got to bolt something back on the car that doesn't need to come off again, I had to put the hood and frame on to see how much the rear tubs needed bashing in so I bolted on the hood frame brackets. I then plucked up enough courage to give the rear tubs a beating but wanted to try and do it a bit neater than Carbodies, after putting the hood on I could see it didn't need to have such a large area beaten in so after a bit of work with a copper/hide mallet I think it turned out quite well. Originally I was going to leave the tubs for whoever I got to paint the car but in doing that I wouldn't have been able to weld in the rear seat panels, so this way I can get the panels on and leave the tubs just needing a little bit of tidying up. Danish 294 Posted February 9, 2016 Much neater than the original arches which look like they were given a going-over with a 4lb sledge.
cortinax14 10 Posted February 9, 2016 Very neat work on those arches. Looks a lot better than the Carbodies effort

Very neat work on those arches. Looks a lot better than the Carbodies effort  Much neater :) I must admit I spent hours on youtube watching people hammer the life out of all sorts of metal, one tip I did use was to lay a rubber mallet on it's side and on the panel and then hit the mallet with a hammer. This gave me a lot neater start than just hitting the panel direct with a hammer.
littlenewt2067 33 Posted February 9, 2016 I think you have nuts of steel to have a go!! Looks so much better than the original mess!!!
M5Greg 83 Posted February 9, 2016 I think you have nuts of steel to have a go!! Looks so much better than the original mess!!! I stood just staring at it for about half hour before I could bring myself to take a hammer to a brand new wheel tub.
Downstairs Dave 37 Posted February 10, 2016 Have repeat what others have said, truly professional job done on those arches. Goes to show what previous people can get away with, bet the bloke who bought the car in the first place didn't have a scooby. Keeeep going... 🔨👏

Keeeep going... 🔨👏 I don't think I noticed anything on the rear tubs until I stripped the carpet out of my second Carbodies to get the quarter lights done and my first thought was that it was accident damage, it was only when I found the the other side the same I realised it was deliberate. M5Greg 83 Posted February 13, 2016 Had 3 days on the car this week so managed to get the rear seat panels in, these are the panels put in by Carbodies to relocate the rear seat and somewhere for the hood frame to lower into. I made the panels up early last year and have been looking forward to putting them in, it looked fairly easy to get them in but like everything else on the car it was a bit of a pain and I had to use my porta power to assist in getting it in the right place. I also need to thank Tony C who owns Carbodies KON as he has twice got his car out of hibernation for me to photograph and take measurements of the quarter windows and the rear seat frames, without having another car nearby I wouldn't have been able to get any of this done. Another thanks to Dungeness B for letting me use their metal workshop to cut and bend the panels, the first 2 pics are Tony's car just to show the original set up as my car had been hacked about. Pete-H 66 Posted February 14, 2016 Great pictures Greg I never realized how much they butchered the cars. And what first class work you are doing. At least Jim will have a good yard stick to work to for his carbodies car.
