How long did it take to find your Cortina?

Recommended Posts

I've decided to hold out for the Cortina that I really want rather than just buying the first good example that comes along. It may take me days or it may take me years but I'm in no rush and I'm sure I'd be happier with the model and spec I desire, so I was wondering how long it took you chaps and chapettes to find your beloved Cortinas?

I heard about mine from my boss, he'd been at a garage (on business) and was told it was for sale after commenting on it, he mentioned it to me and about a month later I went to see it. Payed for it the day after and drove it home.

I wasn't really looking for one again but now I have it I love it...........and the price was right too which always helps!!

I sold my last 1300 mk3 2door for £500 about 11 years ago, that was cheap even back then. You will never find one for that price now. I wanted another 2 door specifically a GT and was prepared to wait for one to come along but prices had risen exponentially and my opportunities to buy a GT or GXL had evaporated over a ten year period, in fact the only 2 door GT that was available in the similar condition as my current 2 door i bought 3 years ago was £6,000. Double what my car cost.

I could only buy a car which was a lower spec that I could customise to the way I wanted this is because I waited a bit too long and the prices went up more than I saved so I compromised on the exact model I wanted. But I am happy with the car I have and like customising things to my taste so it wasn't a compromise in the end.

my old red 2000E MK3, i waited 2 years to buy, a man who used to service the forklifts where i worked told me about it, seems a 17 year old he worked with bought it, then couldn't afford to insure it, so he parked on his mums drive and there it stayed, i arranged to have a look and it was a nice car, but he was asking a lot for it, so i didn't buy it at that time, i used to pop round and see if it was still sat on his drive and knock asking how much now, it was usally just passed my pocket, then after a few years had gone by the chap who serviced our forklifts told me that his mum wanted her drive back and the car had to go, so after 2 years of waiting i could afford to buy her and she became mine, six weeks later she was on the road for the first time in almost three years

I already had a 1600e that i used for years whilst i was waiting for the right car. Took about 5 years to find right price and car. I would still like a diamond white 76 mk4 gl with green interior but have given up on that as i have been looking for 8-9 years :shocking: . I would not wait to long if you see somthing, as prices seem to be on the up every week these days.

I looked for something around 6-9 months before I found a car which met my criteria.

About 5 years ago I went looking for a Capri 2.8 at that time there was a glut of them 'bit rough' for under a grand- I even managed to miss a lovely black one with MOT and really tidy just a damaged bonnet that sold for £950!!!! and also a burton 3 litre turbo for 1200!!! still kicking myself- but looked for local fords in frustration and mine was for sale about 20mins away and the bloke had to get it out of his bosses yard asap -viewed from ebay and did deal at viewing and he even delivered it -couldn't resist when I saw it looked quite mean and forlorn

so no time at all and no choosing spec but am happy I got it and although its not ready to go anywhere and it still needs so much works -I love it!

I have bought about 20 Cortinas from the same man and when he decided it was time to sell this one he suggested I keep it to use , so I did . I will patiently await the GT coming up for my next one
