V6Ghia 37 Posted February 22, 2015 I've usually found one I like within a couple of months especially since the internet is now so easy to use, pre 2001 it was much harder. There is normally at least one I like on ebay every week. I am now into double figures with my Cortina collection. It depends how sure you are of your perfect car. I have often thought of what my perfect Cortina would be and like lots of different ones, if I could only have one car and didn't have one to start with then a 1982 X reg Champagne Gold 2.0 Ghia manual estate would be my choice and I have not seen one for sale in the 14 years I've been on the internet. Most of mine I've found by accident, the silver 2.3 Ghia estate is probably my favourite, I spotted it in the back of Classic Ford in 2002 and thought it sounded too good to ignore, although I tried, curiosity got the better of me and I went to see it, it was not a colour I would choose but was too good a car to ignore and proved to be far better than I ever could have hoped. It took me on the Classic ford trip to Holland, Le Mans, and Cortina's to Cortina and I added over 16,000 mile to it's 200,000+ all in the first year of ownership. deltamal 37 Posted February 22, 2015 (edited) My mark 3 was my Father-in-laws and was given to me by Mother-in-law after he died, she had been trying to sell it and the best offer she got was £150 from a lady who wanted to keep her chickens in it! it was a pampered car with no rust, my Mk 5 Crusader estate was bought through Buy Sell from a guy in Edinburgh who didn't have time to use it, the deal took a couple of weeks, and around 2 months to find it, worth waiting for though! wolfrace 116 Posted February 22, 2015 Deffo agree that the internet has made it way easier, to find cars, parts and help. The last cortina I bought was chanced upon I was just driving down the road and saw the top half of something american looking and yellow, I didn't know much about cortinas at all except a mate had a brown XL. I had a look for the owner when I next drove past and it was still there months later, he wanted to sell and I bought it. As great as the net is chance things like that are much more interesting than internet shopping. Saying that I bought mine unseen and it could've been ropey, I was bricking it all the way there and smiling all the way back.

andy lowe 0 Posted February 28, 2015 I took my interest in Cortina's after chancing upon an issue of CF in Sept 2000 and I first looked at a tired Mk3 in Nov 2000 at a local garage but it was up for stupid money even for then. I subsequently looked at a modified Mk1 4dr in May 2001 at another garage this time in Shepshed but when push came to shove I was never going to be able to insure it alongside my daily driver at the time being only 18 so had to leave it which was a shame because I quite liked it. I had to save for a further 18 months before I was in a financial position to buy and insure a Cortina and I found my first one, a 1600E, in Nottingham in Jan 2003. Like another poster I never had net access until 2004 so all my car hunting was at shows, CF classifieds or CCW paper.
FKLGLS 43 Posted March 1, 2015 My Mrs introduced me to something called Ebay about 7 years ago. The first time I looked at it she said "search for something you like". I typed in Cortina and the first car to come up was a crystal green gls. She said "Go on, have a bid on it. I bet you don't" so I did and put £300. No chance ! She told me to go again so I threw two more bids on and it hit the reserve. I then totally forgot about it. About three days later, I came home from playing football and she asked me about the car. I hadn't even given it a thought. We signed on and saw there were 11 minutes left on the auction. 11 minutes passed and there were no more bids, the car was mine ! I couldn't believe that I had won a car that I really liked on the back of a bet with my wife. I was so excited about it and it was like Christmas all over again, I was like a little kid. Ebay and I have been good friends since that day....... :wife: :wife:

essex rick 1 Posted March 7, 2015 I first saw my mk4 in 2010 on ebay late at night on a buy it now for £1250. I made some enquiries and thought id sleep on it. The next day I decided to buy it but sadly it had gone. About six weeks later it was on ebay again this time for £1995, it appeared the person who bought it had cleaned it up and done some paintwork. Sadly I couldn't buy it as when I missed it the first time I bought a mk5 the following week. It ended up being bought by rusty bodie on here and went up to Scotland. Two years later I had been forced to sell the mk5 as we were buying a flat with no parking. However the flat purchase fell through and we moved to a place with a garage so I was on the lookout for another car. Looking on here one night to my surprise I saw the mk4 for sale again so I made a call to rusty and told him my story and said I really wanted the car. As my wife was due to give birth any day I asked if he could hold it till I could get up there, however he was so pleased it would be going to a good home he offered to drive it down for the petrol cost £100. So two weeks later he pulled up in Essex and she was mine. I really cant thank him enough , he is a top bloke and genuine car nut who I still email pictures and let him know how shes getting on regularly.
