why is Cortina Day not more popular?

brought the more acceptable Transit last year (ST170 for sale and IF I can sell it I plan to buy a Cortina as an everyday car....won't be taking it to shows though)

I am sorry I do not want to cause offence, I did say this is just my opinion, to my shame I have a Mondeo as a daily driver, at least a Sierra drives the correct wheels. I am not saying you shouldn't come in your car, just that it does not interest me the same as a Cortina. I am looking forward to seeing your real car though and would like to see that next year.

I took the sierra to a kit car show at Stoneleigh last year and it survived intact :)

 

If my cortina is ready for cortina day next year, then i hope to be there.

(I see the smilie, but ) .....obviously the Transit is there for long trips and the Cortina is being sought as an everyday car in back up to our family car as we are cutting down to one car between us. This exercise will save a staggering €1500 per year so I think I can justify €56 road tax for a Cortina (I can have up to 4 vehicles on my Classic insurance policy the Camper is already on)

Anyway back on subject Cortina Day needs more promotion , starting with facebook, listings for classic car shows and local media from the area

Thats not good then. Also the TCFG could do with a web designer to help with their web pages (all the info is there but looks amateur). I know this is done for the love of the cars on a low budget but surely someone in the Ford fraternity has web design skills to help out?

If I get time I will put links for the show on whatever relevant facebook groups* I can find unless someone else wants to volunteer ? , working between 8 and 12 hours a day at the mooment though

its a great show to attend,done the yat a few years running then Monmouth last year.surley the cars and the people make the show not the site.you all seem to have a good crack and cant wait for next year so it cant be that bad.would like to attend for the weekend but can only do one day,noticed the show isn't advertised in any weeklys like classic car weekly or classic car buyer,suppose I could have put a notice in but we all think its somebody elses job don't we.

Can we get back to the question which essentially is "what can the TCFG do to make Cortina Day more popular" ?

 

There's 6500 Cortinas out there in the UK (yes I know 3000 odd are on SORN but that doesn't mean they don't come out in the summer....) and the one thing that always struck me is how few cars are at the show and how few people know about it (OK so that's two things.....)

I suspect a lot of people are like me and have more than one Cortina, but only one of them road-worthy, the other's being a future project, parts donor, whatever.

 

I think petrol costs are part of the issue - it's a 1-day show and it would be £100 in fuel from many areas of the country (my example- travel from Newcastle upon Tyne, fuel is £1.13 a litre, car gets 30mpg).

 

There are also other shows - the Mk1 & Mk2 is huge. Classic Ford show, Fords on the Front. Lots of good shows to choose from. I do Cortina Day every year, but it's local for me, otherwise like those I've listed I would do it once every few years.
