Mk5Mike's, er, Mk4 2.3GL estate

Recommended Posts

Cracking car Mike  Looks like another set of sports road wheels will be in order :D

I take it that row of garages is yours and you're trying to find a Cortina to put in each one

Thanks Kevin, I'm made up about owning it.

The wheels are a bit of a dilemma - they're period compomotives and suit the car well but you know my thing for original spec and I've got the refurbed set of sports wheels ready and waiting that I was going to put on the 2 door...

And definitely no more Cortinas - for now anyway!

Pete has sent me this photo of his late father, who owned the car from new, taken in 2007:

I was supposed to be leaving the estate alone until the 2 door was properly back on the road - but at the start of the month I thought what the hell and taxed it.

I also cracked about the wheels, and swapped out the Compomotives for the sports steels. I'll keep hold of the alloys for the moment as they do suit the car but it just looks a bit more, er, Cortina-ish with the steels.

I've also started assessing the little jobs that need doing. Pete's father had black vinyl applied to the sills and front valance - there are now a couple of areas of rust underneath, with a small hole at the back of the near side sill, so I'll remove the vinyl, make good and repaint.

Went for a nice mixed drive this afternoon - the V6 really is a lovely engine, there's just so much torque, hardly ever need to change down.

Mike you need a set of Chrome Wheel rings for it now then it will look as it first did I will try and dig out a picture of it from the first 4 years we had it so you will have something to aim for.

I'm glad you enjoy how it drives.

Has your good lady given it the thumbs up?

Pete

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the update, I think its looks loads better with the sports steel wheels fitted.

Were these the ones you originally had done for the two door?

What a cracking car, loving the colour and vinyl roof which go very well together. Dont think i have seen one in that colour combination before,i also agree with the above, the sports road wheels look the dogs on it :thumbup:I also think Ghia wheels would suit it very well as they would bring out the colour well, after saying that the sports wheels do a good job of doing that

Do you have any plans for it?

Thanks for all the comments!

The light blue vinyl roof is aftermarket but sets off the midnight blue paint much better than black, which was the only factory option.

The main plan is just to enjoy driving it!
