Looking good Mike, the Mk4 experience is what driving classics is all about

Finally got a bit of free time and some decent weather this afternoon so in went the front seats I salvaged late last year.

The driver's seat still has a faint aroma of damp rodent despite my best efforts with a steam cleaner and a carpet cleaner but otherwise I'm very chuffed with the results.

All of that look so Familiar good Job Mike, it's at least 12year since it looked like that.

I think the thing with the Smiths unit is to keep it on a lower brightness.

Just noticed the radio :shocking: do you need a new piece of dash to put back in?

Thanks everyone.

In the ideal world I'd put an original radio back in - I've got two uncut spare front door cards and a Mk5 radio mounting plate which could probably be tacked on to the hole in the dash.

Hopefully it'll be my ride for Monmouth this year!

It still has the original Speaker in the dash, I know this as I did not remove it, If we had kept the original Radio Mike would have it but 20 years ago it wasn't needed from what I remember at the time all of the tuning dial the parts behind it had failed and at the time I bought the period Blaukpoint for my Father as a present as he always had the radio on when he was in the car and didn't like being without a radio.

Yeah no worries, this is one of the great things about this car is we know its history, its a credit to you and your dad for looking after it so well

Blimey - it's been nearly two years since I last updated this thread.

As some of you know, last year was a bit of a write off while I've been dealing with some health issues Recovery hasn't been entirely plain sailing but I'm pleased to say that everything's now going well.

This year's resolution is to fettle the Mk4 (my only Cortina at the moment!) and as I'm off work for the time being, I'm getting stuck in.

First off was to replace the knackered water pump. Pete had included a new one in the large stock of spares he gave me with the car, so that was a cheap job!

Next was to fit the new genuine centre and rear exhaust sections that I bought back in 2016. The car had been running with a straight through rear section which sounded quite fruity but I could never get a decent idle - now it's silky smooth and unbelievably quiet.

Then the job I've really been putting off. The sills and front valance have had thick vinyl glued to them; for the most part, this has done a good job of protecting the metal underneath but I knew there was some rot at the back end of both sills and on the edges of the valance. Anyway, off with the vinyl and out with the big poking screwdriver - and it's not that bad. Mobile welder is booked in for tomorrow, so with a bit of luck in 24 hours I'll have a 100% solid shell!

Not bad for 30 years for the old pump and it was fitted 1988 while we were on holiday in Aberystwth.

How did you find you needed to change it or was it just a leaky gasket?

The bearings had gone - the wobbly fan pulley gave it away! Hope the new one will do another 30 years!
