RT 1006 137 Posted January 16, 2018 Good to see you back Mike  . The car is looking good too, I see it has an early Mk5 front valance fitted.
Pete-H 69 Posted January 16, 2018 It should do Mike Good to see your getting your mojo back. The vinyl was fitted when dad had the roof vinyl fitted in September 79 considering dad used the car for work for the first 10 year summer and winter it did the job quite well.

I can categorically state that it has never had a valance fitted but it is one of the last 50 cars off the line before they changed over to the Mk5. Mk5Mike 36 Posted January 16, 2018 Thanks guys. Kev - I thought the early Mk5s had the extra two lower centre slots (changing to four lower slots on the later ones)? This one only has the two upper slots which are normally covered by plastic trims (I had to take off the trims to remove the vinyl).

Oh yes, think you're right there Mike, I was getting confused without the two piece grills fitted

GhiaMk4/5 207 Posted January 17, 2018 Security is the main issue, l have several alarms, but if the toe wrags wanted to get in, they could and would, every door is chained and padlocked and deadlocked, but with a good crowbar and/or disc cutter they would be in and out in 2 minuets, l ask myself if l locked myself out, how would l get in, l would jemmy the hinges. Don't want to put a dampner on your storage, but having been broken into, it is a crap experience.

No worries Gary! I'll be keeping the Mk4 as secure as possible too... Good day today - all the welding done. It's a credit to Pete and his Dad that after nearly 40 years the only non-original bits of the shell are these three small areas and a new pair of wings. Doesn't look very pretty at the moment but the primer is just to keep the rust off the new metal until I skim and paint it, hopefully next week. Phil the windscreen guy also called in this afternoon and quickly replaced the faded screen rubber inserts. Before:- After:- A really satisfying little job! Pete-H 69 Posted January 17, 2018 Defiantly a job well done Mike Looks good with the new windscreen trim and the Bristol Street Sticker. Seeing the Kerb Weight in the tax disc holder make me think of my dad as it's his hand printing.
