mr Costin 56 Posted July 29, 2015 (edited) I got a Mk2 Lotus Cortina for free in 1996. Swapped a 1980 Granada for a non running Mk1 Lotus in 1986, Granada value was about £1000. My mother went crazy, Granada scrapped still got the LC speaks for it self. Bought a -65 deluxe for £50 and got a pair of NOS wings and sills with it, late 80's Bought 4 Mk1 GT from one guy for £200, was in 1991, all 4 had exchange L block engines Edited July 29, 2015 by mr Costin
grifterkid 1 Posted July 31, 2015 My favourite bargain find (and one of those cars I wish I had kept!) was a Mk5 Cortina I bought from here about 14-15 years ago...!!! It was a Sirius Red 1.6L JPA 482V 4-door and it is (well, was!) the best car I ever owned... It cost me about £120 (well it was £100 but I paid for the remainder of the tax also) and the chap who owned it drove it from somewhere in the Midlands (I think?) down to me in Surrey, right to my door!!! It was a gem and I loved it dearly...!!!

mr Costin 56 Posted July 31, 2015 (edited) Best business deal I ever made, as long as you look at the procentage, was buying a 1960 Volvo 544 for 1 SEK swedish krona which is about 10 pence and sold the same car for 500 SEK. 50000% profit. Beat that! Edited July 31, 2015 by mr Costin
wolfrace 116 Posted July 31, 2015 You lot have been really lucky over the years thats for sure. I've picked up bargains, mostly parts, never had a stunning car or parts haul for nowt though. my first 2dr mk3 was £500 but that was back when it was probably worth that to be honest. Seen a couple of bargains on here. There was a 2 door mk2 not so long ago.. think it went for something like £2k? I have been offered a few free cars over the years but they've almost always had no MOT and needed some work. I think the owners have seen me mucking about with cars and cba with the hassle of selling and that's why they'd rather offer it to a neighbor. They were never desirable enough cars to bother with the outlay of repair most would just break even, these were things like renault 19s, mk2 astras etc.. not cortinas lol (if only) I think I remember that green 2dr btw.. HOF wasnt it?
