Schaevertje 1 Posted December 3, 2015 A couple of weeks ago i was driving my MK5 with 2.0 pinto and was given it a good run, getting the revs up, you now, what a pinto likes. But suddenly it started backfiring and needed it towed home. After a while of working i found out that the timing was way out and felt some slack in the distributor. So took it out of the engine and this was what happened... Anyone had this happening before? The gear in the engine itself had no damage, which is a bit odd but good of course. Could it be just "metal fatigue" (if thats the correct words for it)? The distributor is stamped with '77 as date while the engine itself is form '83 so not the original one and no idea how many kilometers it has had in its life. I now have the electronic Sierra dizzy in it which is still fine after a couple of weeks, but still hoping it will not happen again...
azcolin 4 Posted December 3, 2015 Its hard to tell by the pics but l helped a friend tear apart a sierra dizzy last weekend but the gear on yours seems to be further up on the shaft than the one we tore apart :headscratch:
Schaevertje 1 Posted December 12, 2015 It happened again today! Only driven 1000km and the other gear is worn too. Probably the gear in the engine damaged, although it looked ok at first sight. :headscratch:

CortinaLover1971 30 Posted December 12, 2015 I had a brand new one go on first turnover, stripped the aux shaft too. Straight after a rebuild. Cog on the dizzy was very dodgy......bought as another make but found to be Accuspark!!!! Gutted and going to attempt to hold them to account but won't hold my breath.
