Gary im going to smar.er all the cars

I use the Datatag DNA marking system on my motorbikes. It's a little 'pot' of paint with unique marking that dries completely clear, and you have to really examine to see it anywhere. The only way to remove it is to take the part it's on down to bare again. There's always some left over so it just happens to find it's way onto other motors too. OK, so the actual vehicle on the register won't match but my subscriptions are up-to-date so I'd expect any officer finding it to want to talk to me, hopefully motor recovered.

I dunno but he best watch his language on here .

I like that you can't easily swear on here though , foul language is used far too much these days for my liking.

Lurkers supplying info

IMHO

Spot on, Pete!

It's a real shame, but unfortunately I'm sure you're right that some of the people on forums like this and on the Facebook groups etc. are only there to find out where the cars are that they want to nick. I have always been careful when posting pictures near home; I even obscured road names and sign posts to try to throw them off the scent. Was never worried about people photographing at shows. I also had 'Cortinashire' as my location. You cant be too careful! Damn shame as majority of folks are decent and honest and I've met some great people and had some really good times with fellow enthusiasts who I only met through forums like this.

I guess meeting up at events like a national rally or Cortina day is a good way to find out who is genuine.... Be careful out there, guys!!

Reminds me of a German woman interviewed on the news today about the attacks in Cologne she said " you have to have a good heart , but be careful "

Time, date, place of possible sighting. Then get on to the CCTV guys manning the road cameras to rewind the tapes back to the sighting to see if they can get a reg no. of the truck.

If so, the Police pay them a little visit...

Easier said than done, I'm in contact with the ex wife of the owner of the mk5 stolen in Chatham. It was mentioned that if it had gone over Dartford Crossing then the reg of the Cortina's & the reg of the truck would be caught. I suggested contacting the Operators of the crossing to get hold of the footage. Message I received back was that they couldn't look at it if requested by the public, it would have to be the police that requests it, however, the police aren't interested in investigating vehicle thefts.

I messaged her back saying that it is important they investigate it & follow it up & suggested speaking to Essex force as well

They're just the ones from last year & the first week of this year that were reported, trying to get info of two others stolen last year that didn't get shared on social media at the time they were stolen.

There are others that have been stolen in previous years too that have never been recovered.

The way to handle the police is to make the normal requests and if you get stonewalled then contact police headquarters for that region and tell them you are not happy with the response you got . I did this years ago and all of a sudden the local police couldnt do enough to help. Headquarters then rang me back to ask if I was happy and told me if there was anything else not to hesitate to get in touch and they apreciated me contacting them - " this is what we are here for " they said.

I got the impression they enjoyed rollicking the local force and keeping them on their toes.

There are a LOT of mk1 and mk2 Escorts go missing as well - the ones found have usually been stripped for parts.
