Deano66 254 Posted June 16, 2023 Hi guys & girls,I finally managed to get back onto my Cortina today, I haven't been doing much,I lost a bit of motivation as I couldn't figure out why the nearside front subframe mounting wouldn't line up. It was about 1 inch too low,I thought chassis leg was bent,but after checking & measuring & checking again,they are ok, 1-2mm difference that's all. In the end I put some threaded bar through the bushes,then I found the fault. When i bought the chassis legs all them years ago,I got a odd pair,the nearside front mounting is a different shape & lower than the offside. I never even thought to check, I never knew there were different ones. This is the offside mount,note the shape under the bush & the distance between the top of the bush & the oval cut outs. This is the nearside mount. Now it's time to cut it out & refit it. Quote Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Deano66 254 Posted March 9, 2024 Well I haven't touched my Cortina for a long time,too long to be honest. I have started looking at the front end to see what I need. The front end that I got many years ago has been 'restored' at some time,but needs doing again,nothing seems to fit correctly & both sides are different. Thanks Craig, that was one of my concerns,how the wing fitted to the upper panel,my original front was too rotten & this one hasn't been repaired properly,I did wonder if it should be recessed. Deano66 254 Posted July 6, 2024 I've not done a lot lately,a few little bits,but i keep putting this job off,well,I decided to get on with it. I know I could buy a new cross member,but it is far too much fun to make one. I used good old cereal boxes for the template & I have used the side panel of a Transit,which was given to me by our bodyshop.
