Pete-H 66 Posted May 30, 2016 Well this Bank Holiday I have been busy I have lowered the Corsair buy 1" front and rear and fitted the New Wheels. Can I thank Teletuby & Mk5CortinaSurrey for the help and assistance with the wheel caps. Click on the image to open it and see the difference.
stevewes 14 Posted May 30, 2016 In my opinion you might as well put a bright red "Cortina" graphic across the back window and paint flames coming from the front wheel arches. Don't get me wrong you have done a great job with the engine conversion and the lights, but the wheels are a few inches too big, they are not in proportion with the rest of the car. A nice look but too Big. On the basis that I could be accused of having it in for you I'm going to firmly bite my lip on my opinion, but simply remind you of your very own post on another car almost a year ago to the day. Fair comment Steve. The new wheels do hold a period look for the age of the car "Big Lotus Elan" style and they are not that out there compared to some or out of proportion with the rest of the car. How can I explain Jim's red 2Door Mk5 with the Sapphire Cossy alloys looks great not bling y or in your face, standard looking but the mini lites on the beige 4 door to me looked to much and to big for that car possibly because it was on standard springs but that's just my view as long as the owner likes it what I think means nothing. Each to there own.
wolfrace 116 Posted May 31, 2016 Wheels look good IMO. I wouldnt mind trying them on my GT. I like the bigger steel wheel look.
Pete-H 66 Posted May 31, 2016 LOWER Pete! Nope that's low enough for me there is only 3.5 inch clearance at the lowest point under the car mow so that's enough, I don't want it grounding out at the slightest bump in the road. I'm surprised you have not fitted Air Ride to you two door.

stevewes 14 Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) Pete, I apologise for my last comment, probably unfair, if they're right for you then fair play  Out of interest, where did they come from? Not a wheel that I've seen before :headscratch: Edit - and when are you going to get that lovely beastie on the road? - is it coming to Monmouth? Pete-H 66 Posted June 1, 2016 I found the wheels on Oponeo.co.uk but before that I used http://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?wheel1=185-70-13X6ET15&wheel2=195-45-16X6.5ET15&fcl=30mm&wcl=40mm&scl=15mm to work out the offset and rim & tire size I needed/could fit in the space I had with the main governing factor being the rolling diameter 23" or 589mm. I still have some work to do on it electrics, tracking, body work and most important before the MOT is to sort the Tank sender so I don't run out of fuel I'm thinking of this time next year before it's on the road properly. I'm going to take my time on this, I needed to change the wheels as the Rosstyles were loosing air and need a proper referb and the new wheels with the tires and painting were less than £375 done so the others can wait. There is some chrome work that need replacing Door handles & badges some I can get NOS but a lot I cannot, so I'm going to copy the design using 3D CAD have new ones made and either chromed or polished depending on what metal I have them made in but that a way down the line. I snagged the original badge insert while polishing and the contact adhesive had given up after 49 years. So I designed and had a new one made all I had to do was paint it, I still have the main badge to do but that can wait no rush. The main thing is it runs drives and is complete but I'm in no rush to get it finished.

Pete-H 66 Posted June 26, 2016 Thanks to some help from Corsair I have managed to replace the Centre Consul Ash Tray the last thing left to finish the referbishment of the Centre Consul. The Chrome was good on mine but the back and spring were too bad to use. A little rusty but nothing a bit of Chemistry cannot sort out. After a 5 hour soak in some Citric Acid it's clean enough to Etch Prime and paint ready to use after swapping over the chrome cover. Thanks Corsair
