cortinax14 10 Posted April 10, 2016 Ok. This car is really starting to test my patience now. Hows the saying go? One step forward & two back? Think I'm taking threee back :tazz: :tazz: Last weekend I fitted a type 9 which turned out to be faulty. No problem I thought, I will fit the 4 speed I have. The 4 speed works well, only now I have an unbearable vibration in the cab on tick over & when revving. I have checked to make sure nothing is hitting the body & fitted new engine & gearbox mounts, but the vibration is still there. Is it possible for the gearbox to cause this or could I be missing something? Incidently, I never noticed this vibration with the t9 fitted and believe me, it's not something you can miss :tazz: Any help & advice greatly received

If yes was the engine the same type? Have you put the 4 speed g/box mounting on the car or are you using the 5 speed mount as they are different? Do you still have the vibration when the clutch is depressed? Are you using the same prop-shaft for the 4 speed or the one for the 5 speed?

cortinax14 10 Posted April 10, 2016 spigot bearing hasn't fell out has it you when you changed the box's over ? or flywheel come loose maybe. I tightened the flywheel up pretty tight, Ste, so don't think it will be that. Gotto admit though, I never checked the spigot bearing. Did you use the 4 speed in another car or have you traveled in the vehicle the 4 speed came from? If yes was the engine the same type? Have you put the 4 speed g/box mounting on the car or are you using the 5 speed mount as they are different? Do you still have the vibration when the clutch is depressed? Are you using the same prop-shaft for the 4 speed or the one for the 5 speed? Thanks for your reply, Pete. Heres the answers:- Did you use the 4 speed in another car or have you traveled in the vehicle the 4 speed came from? No. The gearbox was bought untested. If yes was the engine the same type? Yes, it was from a 2ltr Pinto, but the engine had never been run. Have you put the 4 speed g/box mounting on the car or are you using the 5 speed mount as they are different? I'm using the gearbox mount that came with the 4 speed. I've also fitted a new mounting to this. Do you still have the vibration when the clutch is depressed? I've just been out to the car to check this & yes, it is still there when the clutch is pressed. Funnily enough, I have also just noticed a strange sound coming from the gearbox when the starter kicks in. It appears to be coming from the middle of the gearbox. Are you using the same prop-shaft for the 4 speed or the one for the 5 speed? Yes. Hope these answers help

Thanks for this Pete  Am I right in thinking that the spigot bearing is mounted at the back of the box, where the propshaft goes? Is it easy to replace? nang 2 Posted April 10, 2016 Spigot bearing is in the front, where the input shaft goes into the crankshaft. Gearbox out I'm afraid. Tony.

mk4ste 43 Posted April 10, 2016 Just knock a drift down the side of it and ease it out, worked for me. unless of coarse you have a very small internal puller.

Did you change yours as a matter of course Ste or was it showing symptoms of failure?
