Pete-H 67 Posted May 2, 2016 So, I replaced the spigot bearing, then I fitted just the 4spd bell housing to the engine block to allow me to start the engine without a gearbox. This proved I had no vibration with just the engine. Then I fitted the 4spd & the vibration reappeared. I fitted the t9 & I now have now vibration again. Now I'm confused because when I've looked in the top of the 4spd, all appears to be good, but something obviously isn't :headscratch: Do you get the vibration in Neutral/in gear any gear/in reverse? Have you tried spinning the input shaft with a power drill and seeing if you can feel the vibration of course with the G/Box out of the car? If you get the vibration its the G/Box if you don't then what ever is causing the vibration is on the car, if it only happens when driving then first off I would say Prop shaft. cortinax14 10 Posted May 2, 2016 WHAT??????? is the vibration the same as it was? No Jim. It's the same with the 4spd fitted, but gone with the t9 fitted

I got the vibration in neutral. The car was on axle stands with no prop connected. Everything is now connected up with the t9 fitted, the car is still on four axle stands and there is no vibration through all gears.

Think I'm taking threee back Last weekend I fitted a type 9 which turned out to be faulty. No problem I thought, I will fit the 4 speed I have. The 4 speed works well, only now I have an unbearable vibration in the cab on tick over & when revving. I have checked to make sure nothing is hitting the body & fitted new engine & gearbox mounts, but the vibration is still there. Is it possible for the gearbox to cause this or could I be missing something? Incidently, I never noticed this vibration with the t9 fitted and believe me, it's not something you can miss Any help & advice greatly received  Could be the new gearbox mount I've had problems with vibration and roughness since fitting a 5 speed gearbox. I thought it was a bearing in the gearbox but found out the new gearbox mount is hard as nails same as the new engine mounts. Superglued the 50 year old mount back together and fitted that and it's like a different car now. Now just need to sort out the vibration around the heater control in the dashboard :). Think the new mounts are fine for competition use but hopeless for our road cars.

The Cortina mount is marginal anyway as Ford made the Sierra mount bigger and softer to reduce NVH...so why the aftermarket made the mounts harder is beyond me unless it's for the Caterham crowd who don't mind having their fillings shaken out Edited April 17 by Cortina1975
