the-ford-cortina.com 226 Posted May 11, 2016 it gives REALLY good forward night driving. I mean really good too. why I got you to go in front round the side roads my transit headlights were no match , new van has much better lights, and minor battle scars from today
cortina-city 141 Posted May 11, 2016 This good? :jester: (it's unlikely that I'll run 4 spot-lamps, too much weight and too much drain on the electrics, you can have too much of a good thing!)
cortina-city 141 Posted May 11, 2016 not that good Jayne! but good. good enough for me to ask for no more. good enough to see everything Jayne you did the same as me on the capri, i think that, its frustrating when you are trying to put a point across when you demonstrably know from experience, it works. Pete-H 66 Posted May 12, 2016 Change the H4's Mains, Dipped & Doubles to Led and cut the draw on the Alternator/Battery.
wolfrace 116 Posted May 12, 2016 I like the led idea. :)
Danish 294 Posted May 12, 2016 (edited) not that good Jayne! I was only teasing, it's very unlikely I'll run that many lamps. :) Jayne you did the same as me on the capri, i think that, its frustrating when you are trying to put a point across when you demonstrably know from experience, it works. I would have had a whole series of photos taken doing the conversion, but I deleted them after I sold the car. On the subject of lights, and LEDs, I saw some fantastic work on Old Skool Ford a few days ago on the Taunus version of the Mk3: Edited May 12, 2016 by Danish

the-ford-cortina.com 226 Posted May 12, 2016 those LEDs are a top job , very good for practicality as well but would detract greatly in the originality look of a Cortina IMO , so not for the car showing purist.
Danish 294 Posted May 12, 2016 That is so cool!!!! I thought so. I have a rear lamp body with dodgy connectors, so sometime in the future I'll probably copy this idea.

wolfrace 116 Posted May 12, 2016 those LEDs are a top job , very good for practicality as well but would detract greatly in the originality look of a Cortina IMO , so not for the car showing purist. I don't know you could hide it inside the rear of the cluster and backing plate, have the original feeds run to it and connect inside. People would struggle to know looking at the lamp from the outside to be honest. The wires on a MK3 look a right mess going into the rear clusters anyway. You would have thought there would be a multi pin connector there and the backing plate distributed it all but nope, just a bunch of ford spade connectors crammed in... Saves money on production I guess. Just recently I wired up a hi level brake light but didn't want to chop any of the wiring or use those nasty scotchloks that bite into existing wiring so instead I made a little plug and play loom that takes its feed from the O/S brake lamp and then tucked the wires out of the way. There's no reason why you cant keep the loom exactly the same and just buy the right sized connectors and
