Breakdown apex corner A1

Recommended Posts

my 1600e cut out in traffic on A1 by apex corner coming back from ace cafe and wouldn't start again . Want to say thanks to driver of mk2 estate who pulled up and asked if I needed help . I'd already phoned AA , who were useless , meant to be half hour turned out to be 1 1/2 hours holding up traffic right on roundabout . And thanks to mk4 driver too who asked if we ok .

I broke down in the Viva once on the A19 near Selby. Rang the AA and told them that the carburettor had failed and I needed a tow truck to get me home. They said they need to send someone first to check as they might be able to fix it. WTF!! I told em not to send a school kid who doesn't know old engines cause it will be a waste of time. About half an hour later this kid in nappies arrived from the AA. Never seen a carburettor, nor a distributor nor a coil in his life. Didn't have a fu@@in clue cause he couldn't plug his laptop in

Glad you made it home ok

What was wrong ?? And is it going now ?

We broke down a few years ago in wales, split the top of the rad... An old boy stopped and got us to follow him to his work shop, he brazed the rad up and made us tea...

And we had to argue to get him to take some money...

That was me, I was driving a MK5 :)

Many years ago, not far from there on the M25 in my MK3, I overtook a gritting lorry that put a stone through my radiator, limped the car to the A12, had a mile walk to a phone box (that's how long ago it was), the AA came out, who couldn't fix it, so we went to his house where he had a parts Cortina from which he sold me the radiator for £10 and fitted it.

Thanks for that , they sent a young lad from a garage not even an AA patrol. He didn't have a clue about older cars. Because of the heat and traffic I think maybe it was fuel starvation? I'd flattened the battery trying to start it, he put a booster pack on and it started straight away. Reason I say he didn't have much clue he told me to put my hazards on , don't use my electric windows on way home , my alternator is ok lol. My car was built in 1970 , way before such luxuries. I was a bit peed off having to wait so long as I was holding up the traffic I pushed it into side of road but people still get the hump .

Maybe fuel evaporation..

An electric fuel pump will cure that...

Good luck..

I had to wait 3hrs as the clutch cable snapped. Is your insurance combined with breakdown service?
