Wooden dash refurb

Recommended Posts

I removed the glove box door, then veneered the dash and cut out where the door goes a little tighter so as to have enough to do the door.

I gradually cut out the other openings working from the centres out and finished using a fine grade sandpaper, yes clear varnish.

really appeciate the advice socket! defo giving this ago! thanks mate

Heres My Progress pics so far, must say im very pleased with my effort!

Have the before pic,

then once the veneer was removed and sanded down ,

then the veneer complete and screw holes drilled

and finally the inside of the glove box door and screw holes drilled.

So far Ive spent £25 on the dash itself, £30 on the veneer , £10 on a heat gun , £5 on sanding pads and tack cloths

and time wise about 5 hours so far, once on the car I may then refurb the one currently on there to sell or keep as spare.

ill post more pics as i progress , prob wont be till the weekend now tho.

Pharaoh what colour did you stain the bits you sold?

Couldn't tell you now, too long ago, but i remember going to B&Q and buying a few small

sample pots of stain to try out first to see which got the best result, i bought enough veneer

to do two lots and noticed that it was light and dark and this had a bearing on the stain i bought,

another thing is put the stain on with a rag rarther than a paint brush i thought it gave a better finish..

That's looking nice. What glue do you use, and what was the heat gun for?

hi mate, thanks, the veneer i bought had a sticky back on, so just peeled the paper off and stuck it, anything to avoid contact adesive has to be good lol saved alot of time and mess tbh

The heat gun i used to help remove the old veneer and finish, took about 10-15 mins.

will post more pics as I do more

You have done a good job, always looks better when the veneer runs through with

the glove box lid, i found the cappings a lot easier than the dash to do...
