Rob.aln938y 32 Posted October 6, 2016 nagging thought that 100% A/F will prevent corrosion better I was advised to use 100% A/F for that reason, will put some water in before it goes back on the road

Tinaman 0 Posted October 11, 2016 A Carcoon is the best way of keeping a car in storage over the winter months. Indoor and outdoor versions are available and are way cheaper to run then a dehumidifier.
Danish 294 Posted October 11, 2016 A Carcoon is the best way of keeping a car in storage over the winter months. My car is in a dry garage, but somehow there is a gentle breeze which carries dust and dirt in :(

maurice 1 Posted October 22, 2016 Ive had my Mk5 stored in a dry shipping container for about seven years now and i have to keep going in pumping up the tyres starting her up and moving her about. I must admit i havent changed the oil in those seven years but im about to change oil and filters. Ive moved into a newer shipping conainer as the other one i was in the doors became extremeley difficult to close. I never had problems with condensation in that one as there was another container on top of it, however im in a brand new one now with nothing on top of it. Im going to get som carpet for the floor but just wondering what to get to put on the roof to stop the condensation.
ciaran6791 0 Posted October 22, 2016 Seeing the condensation thread made me think (yes yes doesn't happen often i know) so how about a pitfalls of long term storage and best practice ? I'll start off with flat spotting tyres had many a long term storage car come to me for a quick recommision and the main issues i find (appart from rot) is flat spotting the tyres, IE vibrations when driving, the best method IMHO is axle stands or over inflating the tyres to keep them "round", any others ? Mold on the seatbelts now in a house i'd use a bowl of salt to attract and capture the moisture in the air but as i dont like salt near cars i use those little bags of crystals (decicant) that you get (free) in new electrical equipment or you can buy boxes of it from the likes of B&Q, the Range, B&M ect ect https://www.google.c...m++gel&tbm=shop Car cover in a garage or spend the cash on insulating the roof ? TBH i'm a skip diver so i insulated the roof of my council garage with skip offcuts and carpet on the floor, not sure carpet is the best idea but it's been there for 25 years now and appart from the oil it's soaked up the garage is dry, opinions? to carpet or not to carpet that is the question, wether tis nobler in the wallet to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous restoration costs bla bla bla (you get the idea) what about rubber matting it doesn't absorb any moisture so it cant hold it under the car, thats what i am using at the minute and a halfords breathable car cover.
