Recommended Posts

Morning all,

Can anyone please tell me the best way to remove my MK2 N/S/R door. It's passed its best and I have a replacement painted and ready to fit.

Thanks, Brian

Either the four bolts visible when the front door is open then you can fit your locks etc in and slide the new door onto the hinge and itl hold on the striker and easily put the bolts back. Chances are youl have to take the b pillar trim off to jiggle the hinges to get the best position

I will be doing this shortly as I need to paint the B posts. What about the stays which stop the doors opening too far, how do you disconnect these? I have done this on a Mark 5 and, on those, they are integral with the hinges

Easy; on the B pillar youl see the lug with one end of the check strap attached to it. Theres a pin that holds in in place. This pin has a U clip holding it there so a small flat screw driver will pull it away from the pin so the pin can be pushed out the top.

The actual check strap assembly is taken off the door from inside where the glass etc is, only two bolts

Ta Mk 2 addict. When I did the job on the Mark 5 I took the trim between the doors on the inside of the car away and unbolted the door that way, leaving the hinges attached to the door. would you say this is easier, or leave the hinges on the pillar and unbolt them from the doors?
