did they ever make a mk2 perana ??

Recommended Posts

With the experience and use of a few Savage's, I can bet this is fun and very dangerous in the wrong hands.

They made mk2-3 cortinas (3.0 V6),mk1 Capri (302V8),mk1 Granada (302V8) & it's long been rumoured that basil grèen made himself one mk2 Granada (302V8).

No cortinas where fitted with V8s to my knowledge.

Don't think any other ford models where converted.

I think Jeff Uren was ahead of everyone else in this arena - just didn't get it to market first.

I think if you loose the wheels this looks like a pretty decent car.Nice set of Rostyles are included in the sale .What do you think of the price ?

I don't think so Tony. I remember talking to Jeff at Symonds Yat one year, him telling us about how he was just finalising the original designs and development work for fitting the V6s in to the MkIs when Ford announced the MkII so he had to redo a lot of it to suit the new car.

Ford South Africa never introduced the mk2 or later capris over there , a few were brought in for trials but never launched , hence no Perana versions of them , Basil Green did build a few v6 capri mk1 peranas before he did the v8 and some mk3 cortina 3l v6 peranas were built, the few v8 cortinas built were done by dealerships to order--not basil green, some bakkies mk4/5 shape were also done with ford motorsport v8s. I have also always wondered who was first between Savage and Perana , there was a ford commissioned mk1 cortina v6 prototype done, so who built that ? and who got to read the report or hear of it first back then ?

Race proved supposedly built one mk1 just before ford launched the mk2 as mentioned elsewhere.

OK, thanks for setting the record straight Graham. I've often wondered where the original idea came from (who's was it) to put a "V6" into a Cortina ? :wine:
