Pete Ferg 4 Posted April 20, 2017 Glad you got it back ok. I think we tend to panic a bit when we travel a long distance in an unknown car. I drove from North Wales down to Somerset to collect mine from Markymark3 about 2 yrs back . got me all the way home in the blistering summer sun on a bank holiday!! treat it with care, and look after it and it will be good to you. keep us updated on the work....and some pics?? deltamal 37 Posted April 20, 2017 I bought my Crusader estate from just outside Edinburgh and drove it back to Plymouth, a bit of a worry, but we got there! it's always a challenge with the unknown....

Kenworth W900 38 Posted April 21, 2017 Oh, nice. What are you plans for it? Lovely period style mirrors. Looks good overall. I imagine plenty to be getting on with though - as is the case with all of them haha. In my experience filling up the tank from empty on a MK3 is roughly 55 quids worth. The tank is listed as holding just shy of 12 imp. gallons. That's approx 54 litres. At the current average uk forecourt rate of 116p that means a whole tank should be roughly £62. However, because you never actually usually brim the tank or fill it up from bone dry empty it tends to be £50-£55.
wolfrace 116 Posted April 21, 2017 I can't remember the last time I filled a tank until the pump trigger clicks, just a case of stick £10 or £20 in there mostly. Looks like a nice mk3, it's the second one I've seen with that grill mod, looks good IMO.
Kenworth W900 38 Posted April 21, 2017 As was highlighted on Sunday when trying remove my fuel tank from the Cortina - I can be a little trigger happy haha! I just find it easier to brim the tank because, like with haircuts, the fewer times I have to bother going to do it the better.
H Cortina 14 Posted April 21, 2017 First rule of owning a classic car, don't assume it will get from A to B without a drama. Take up the offer of someone driving behind you. Relax, sit back and enjoy the world of old Ford's.
Danish 294 Posted April 21, 2017 Nice project. R reg must make it one of the last ones?
Corf68 0 Posted April 21, 2017 R reg - a very late example: very nice. I rarely fill mine these days but would go with £55 to £65 tops, but then my local fill up point is a rip off motorway service station on the M54. I use Shell V-Power with a dose of Miller Oil VSPe to protect against ethanol corrosion and as a lead substitute. She seems to like this mixture, performing well and doesn't pink at all. meatbeast 0 Posted April 21, 2017 thanks guy, yup deffo a late one, ive been over it this morining and it seems to be pretty solid, got a vouple of niggles to sort out though, theres a bad vibration at idle when in drive but with the foot brake applied, and it sounds like the exhaust is wobling but when i turn of the car and check it seems fine? plans wise I wanted it sprayed signal orange.... but the cortina fund has taken a severe battering.... so it may go matt black, I have some slot mag alloys to go on as soon as I can find some locking wheel nuts and I need to fit some rear belts... cheers, John
Kenworth W900 38 Posted April 21, 2017 (edited) Matt black is always cool but I think you should treat the car to the colour of your choice even it means waiting a little longer. You can get a lot of tips from the write-ups around here. Applying signal orange in 2K can be done relatively well even by a newbie if you gather together some advice first. Danish on here had a signal red MK5 which she did some painting on - that one came up good. And that's just one of many around here where people have had a go with decent results  Edited April 21, 2017 by Kenworth W900

Danish 294 Posted April 22, 2017 now I really dont know what to do.... signal orange, matt black (theres a matt black capri a few roads down that looks awesome) or a dark metalic There's no rush - you can drive it around a bit, sort out any issues that arise, then make a decision. If you can, go to Cortina Day in June - probably the biggest annual gathering, lots of cars to see in the flesh and people to talk to.
Kenworth W900 38 Posted April 22, 2017 Yeah, Cortina Day is a must mate. We look forward to meeting you and seeing the car if you can make it. There will be others heading over from your area - you could potentially join a convoy over to the show.
