Cortinamark5 8 Posted May 16, 2017 Hi, been told my diff or axle bearings need replacing as its had a whining/graunch noise since I bought it last year, has anyone had a refurb done and what sort of cost could I expect from a garage/specialist?. DON'T REALLY WANT TO GO DOWN SECOND HAND ROUTE AS I WOULD NOT KNOW IF I WAS BUYING ANOTHER BAD ONE. Thanks in advance :)
dgo 80 Posted May 16, 2017 Are you sure it's the diff or could the noise be wheel bearings? Also have you checked the oil type and level?
sheffieldcortinacentre 764 Posted May 16, 2017 Several hundred pounds, you'll get a used one for £75ish Not much to check check for excess play by turning it, whip cover off & look for physical damage.
sierra3dr 53 Posted May 16, 2017 I haven't done a Kolner, but I have stepped into the world of doing a front diff from a Sierra. I know it's mot the same, but the makeup is. In fact some of the roller bearings in a Kolner were carried over to the Sierra. I have the part numbers on Cortina Microfiche, but Fordopedia don't
Jorge Mutio 0 Posted June 6, 2017 Hi, I'm new user in this blog. I own a Cortina from 1977 and I will use it as a donor car for a Seven replica. I'm looking for a shoerter diff. May be mine it's a 3,54 and think could be better a 4,11 It's possible to buy one of this kind. I have a very good friend living at Chicester and he can do the job for me and send it to Montevideo, Uruguay Thanks a lot
sheffieldcortinacentre 764 Posted June 6, 2017 You need a 1.6 auto axle also fitted to the 1.6 wagon or the 4.44 fitted to the 1.3 saloon. Both of these are koln axle (parts aren't interchangeable with your atlas axle). Due to the light weight of a seven you shouldn't have any problems with a powerful engine.
