Mark.C 0 Posted June 20, 2017 On the top of my MK5 doors is a chrome strip. It's a GL. I'm fitting a new door, so I want to fit the chrome strip to the door. As far as I can see is the chrome strip slides on and sits on rivets. Are these normal small rivets it sits on or special rivets. I won't know until I take the chrome strip off. RT 1006 137 Posted June 20, 2017 The chrome/aluminium trim is held on by about 6 or 7 plastic clips, it is the clips that are riveted to the door. You'll have to be very careful when unclipping the trim as it's easily damaged.
sheffieldcortinacentre 747 Posted June 20, 2017 Just normal ones far as I know.
Mark.C 0 Posted June 21, 2017 Does any one know if I can get new clips or a new bit of trim if I break it? I have to take it off to put it on another door. Sods law
Steve Walton 130 Posted June 21, 2017 Hi, I have a few spare clips if you are stuck and maybe a sample pop rivet. Cheers Steve
sheffieldcortinacentre 747 Posted June 21, 2017 Both will be found more by luck than anything else, don't know anywhere that stocks either. I've prob got some clips & the trims on spare doors the trims are awkward to post.
littlenewt2067 33 Posted June 21, 2017 Bresco do a couple of clips, measure yours before ordering
Mark.C 0 Posted June 22, 2017 If any ones got any clips name your price. Some one hit me again today. He was trying to over take me. The gap got to tight, but the idiot still went for it and smashed into my offside. The driver's door is already dented up from an idiot in a fork lift. This time he ripped off the wing moulding, and gave me a few scratches he must have been doing 50 or 60 when I was poodling along at 30 in a 30 mph zone. Now I need a lower wing moulding. I've botched it on for now with two self tappers. The joys of owning a MK5. It needs a respray, I think I'm getting nagged spiritually. :D :)
Mark.C 0 Posted June 22, 2017 (edited) It felt as if he'd done much worse. When I got out it looked worse than what it was with the laquer fraying up, giving it that white scratchy look. A nice lump of filler fell out just under the indicator not rust, but shows it's been in a crash before. Funny how to you find out.
