pinto using water

Recommended Posts

The 2.0 pinto in my capri is using a lot of water, it is not leaking out anywhere and the car has not lost any power at all.

There is no water in the oil or oil in the water. But the water disappears about a litre every 40 miles. :headscratch:

Water pump, head gasket, or cracked head. Water doesn't always find it's way into the oil. Sometimes it's sucked into the combustion chamber and comes out of the exhaust as water vapour.

Is the rad cap OK? I had one that only seemed to leak only when I was up to speed. Was hard to find!

Also wheel under the heater matrix in case that's leaking. Again really hard to see

Yes I'd try another cap had this one, also the water vapour too.

See if you can get the cooling system pressure tested.

If you were close could do it for you.

Has it got a exspantion bolttle . If not it may be just dropping it on the road as it expands and because it's hot it's expanding more than usual .then when you take the cap of it looks low .

Is it getting hot? if not I wouldn't change the head gasket on the off chance.
