chalcedon 0 Posted October 13, 2017 I need to remove the cylinder head on my 1982 mk 5 2.0 estate to renew the valve seals. Can I re-use the cylinder head bolts?

markymarkthree 178 Posted October 13, 2017 You dont need to disturb the head to change the stem seals. If you can lay your hands on the correct Ford/Churchill tool its a piece of cake. Or use one of these, just as easy. Also a small length of rope needed. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Professional-Overhead-Valve-Spring-Compressor-Portable-Removal-Tool-Heavy-Duty-/263223059214?hash=item3d4951230e:g:E9IAAOSwFPRZxQly
Beowulf 87 Posted October 13, 2017 If you do take the head off there are actually 2 types of bolt (although I can't remember which are which) one type is a stretch bolt and shouldn't be reused. That said I have reused them with no issues.
dgo 80 Posted October 13, 2017 The one with lots of splines in the top of the bolt are the reusable type: http://www.burtonpower.com/head-bolt-early-non-stretch-type-ford-sohc-pinto-each-ft1005.html The later Torx ones which are stretch: http://www.burtonpower.com/head-bolt-late-stretch-torx-type-ford-sohc-pinto-each-ft1005a.html
