the-ford-cortina.com 225 Posted November 2, 2017 I have broken a few kit cars that came with log books saying they were Ford Cortinas or Ford Escorts - they were never legal to be on the road like that they should have been Q regs , thats what the DVLA may suspect you have turned your Cortina into. If your car can still pass the 8 point rule it will be fine

Danish 294 Posted November 2, 2017 (edited) "8 point rule" Yes I found out about this recently also :glare: You should be fine - original steering, shell & suspension = 8 points. There is an allowable amount you can strengthen and add to a shell - so roll cage, strengthening panels, etc. should be OK. sheffieldcortinacentre 530 Posted November 2, 2017 Most log books used to say ford cortina/escort, vw beetle, etc "based" on kit cars but not the kit name & retained the donor reg if they passed the 8 point rule. If not now they have to have a name not all ready in use (some of the reason new cars have wierd names) & is why some imports if sold new (but not by the manufacturer or thier agent) also have wierd names. In the early 00s AC cars were importing ford falcon cars & station wagons for the funeral trade (the co-op still favour them) but had to badge them as Verte Tempest, quiet a few other limos & hearses aren't regd as ford,Volvo etc due to similar rules. Which are i beleave changing again. The modern mustang was in the pre 2000 road tax bracket (even though an equivalant jag coupe ,etc was in the expensive bracket)up until ford dealers started selling the updated slit light version. mygasser 3 Posted November 3, 2017 (edited) "8 point rule"Yes I found out about this recently also :glare: If you cut the bulkhead and or tunnel back for clearance you're outside the 8 points so if that's the plan you need to build to biva spec. First thing to check is front screen availability with ec43r (pretty sure that's it) marking. If they are available everything else is straightforward. As mentioned on rodsnsods a 302 ford is an easier swap without cutting required. Edited November 3, 2017 by mygasser
