Tay14 2 Posted December 16, 2017 I have all the parts to convert my mk2 from Dynamo to alternator .the dynamo on the car is working fine so is it worth it to convert to alternator??or should I just leave it original and wait for the Dynamo to stop working??cheers paul. the-ford-cortina.com 226 Posted December 16, 2017 entirely up to you , converted both mine to alternator but was on one when doing an engine swap and the other because the dynamo did die
wolfrace 116 Posted December 16, 2017 If you aren't running lots of additional auxiliary circuits or extra lamps you may as well leave it, I had one on my last mk3 and considered changing but it didn't seem worthwhile while it was still working. Saying that, I don't know how long these things last but I guess if you want to preserve the dynamo by not using it you could fit the alternator anc keep the dynamo & regulator somewhere safe to return back if you ever fancy. Tony Webster 32 Posted December 16, 2017 And don't forget there's two types of Dynamo ? The usual c40 and a c41 with a bigger output. The way you can tell them apart is the c40 has a "step" in the body .... :wine:
myle087 2 Posted December 16, 2017 C40 L longer body and bigger output standard on 1600E
