GXL 0 Posted January 20, 2018 Can someone post a link to previous threads about upgrading radios and general reception trouble shooting. My car has the original P21 AM/LW radio and antenna on the nearside wing. The reception is very poor. Ideally I would like upgrade to DAB but keep the original appearance. RT 1006 137 Posted January 20, 2018 If you want to retain original appearance you'd probably be best modifying the P21 to take an auxiliary input. I think Cortina City might have a circuit diagram for the P21 so if you're electrically minded the diagram would give you a good start for the upgrade. Mk5Mike 36 Posted January 21, 2018 The Ford P42 radio was a factory or dealer upgrade from the P21 - it’s actually a rebadged Blaupunkt Frankfurt so as well has having FM, it also has a DIN socket for connecting a cassette deck which can be used as an Aux input - I fitted one to my Crusader and used the DIN socket to connect my phone up to it. I’ve still got the radio but it’s mono only - later ones are stereo though. They seem to come up on German eBay fairly regularly. Can’t seem to post photos at the moment but will dig them out later...
Danish 294 Posted January 22, 2018 Getting an FM radio is a gateway to modernity - you can get DAB to FM convertors like the Pure Highway and MP3 players that pkay out on FM. I imported a 1980s 8-track which has FM for this reason.
