Cortina 1600E

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Wasn't to sure where to put this so I apologise if it is the wrong forum.

I already have a Mk1 1500 Gt airflow and have found a 1600e that I am interested in, it needs a full restoration and as far as I can tell it is complete and apart from the colour seems to be as ford intended it to be.

The reason I am posting this is because I'm not to sure what I should be paying for a restoration project on a Mk2 Cortina 1600E and would appreciate any thoughts.

Also whilst here, I know the 1600E had reinforcement panels on front struts and should have anti tramp bars on the back axle, is there any other defining features other than the V5c that will help to identify the car as a pucker 1600E.

Thanks all

if it needs a " full restoration " price could be anything from £1000 to £5000 , and the only way to know for certain if its genuine is to have provenance - anything can be changed over 50 years

I think my resto is going way above that Dave :tears: , i think you should also look out for the vents on the metal part of the dash.

Series 1 has 2 vents pressed into the steel for demisting, series 2 has 4 vents pressed into the steel. But anything is possible, a very easy car to duplicate, my old twin cam, caught fire the 80's was beyond economical repair, but is still on the road, l know for a fact it is not the car it is meant to be !!! History and provenance is very important.

can of worms restoring them.being honest buy one done pal.Unless you can plate it up and fabricate it all up yourself ,you need deep pockets now panels are very expensive.

Its ok buying one done up providing it got provenance. I knew of one that was restored to a very high standard, it turned out to be quite literally a death trap waiting to happen.

thanks for the info, i will be restoring it myself as i still currently am with my MK1. If this 1600e is what i think it is, it will be my next bare metal strip project to keep me of the streets.
