Mk2 heater unit - fan control question

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Can anyone explain how this unit works. It sits on top of the mk2 heater unit and is some form of resistor for the two speed fan control.

This one has a burnt track on its underside. What can be done to repair?? or is there a modern equivalent that can be used.

Thanks,

John

John the resistor reduces the current flow to the motor thus providing the slow speed .It runs hot and therefore has a lifespan. I think the older type which is a coil winding is more durable.

Thanks Myles  What if you soldered in a regular resistor? (if you able to match the resistance value)

That's all I did with my mk1, got my resistor from Maplins.

You might even achieve a more useful slow speed,I find mine a bit too slow. BT W did you not take the one with the dash loom off scrapper?
