Mk3-mk5 wiring loom compatibility

Recommended Posts

Hi all I am looking into rewriting my engine bay in my mk3 and I have a spare mk5 loom here can anyone tell me how compatible they are? The only difference I can see is the mk5 has no headlight relay loom, my main problem is if the 2 plugs in the firewall are the same and just plug and play? Thanks

They're not.

The wires are in a different order in the bulkhead plugs.

There's pre-facelift mk3 eng bay (ohv, ohv GT, ohc, ohc GT, plus auto of each).

Then interior versions (base/L, XL, GT/GXL again plus auto of each & est of the lower 2).

pre 71 are different.

Facelift mk3 eng bay ohv, OHC, OHC GT/E plus auto (no auto ohv),
Interior base/L, XL/Gt/E plus auto & estate .

Mk4 eng bay ohv, ohc, ohc S/Ghia, cologne v6, cologne V6 ghia plus auto (no auto ohv)
Interior base/L/GL, S/Ghia, plus auto & estate.

Mk5 eng bay ohv, ohc, ohc Ghia, cologne V6, V6 ghia, plus auto (no auto ohv, some 82 2.0 ohc have electronic ign),
Mk5 interior, base/L/GL/crusader, LS/GLS/Ghia plus auto & estate. pre & post Sept 81.

P100 eng bay ohc series 1 & 2, interior series 1 & 2.

You have to get the right front & rear, also the correct fuse box for the year of loom.

Pre 71, 72-73, 74-76, 76-79, 79- 76- only differ due to a small triangular lug on the underside shave this off & there interchangeable.
