Cortina Mk3 instrument binnacle refurb

Hi, I'm trying to spruce up my instrument panel binnacle. The plastic part is okay but the varnish (or it could be veneer? ) is peeling of the plywood badly. Anyone got hints or tips on how to repair these ? :cheers:

It is the later dash . Had another look it's like thin ply with i think a teak veneer on top. Dunno if i should stick some iron on veneer on top or just revarnish it and live with the chipped veneer

You'd be better putting some pics up showing the extent of the damage to enable opinions on the best way to rectify it.

Damage is a bit worse now..the top layer of ply started flaking off when I attacked the paint on the edges with a sanding disk. :wacko:
